Not my circuit, Tiido Priimagi made this, I decided to make a proper demonstration video showing the real difference when compared to the audio from the best sounding un-modified model of the sega genesis:

With my crystal clear audio mod circuit I weakened the low pass filter caps to remove as much muffle as possible which is what you hear in this video. More information about this fantastic mod can be found here:

I don't know about this... If you de-muffle the Mega Drive's audio can you still call the console a Mega Drive? ;)

Seriously though, it sounds nice! I woulden't mind doing it to my Mega Drive, provided it's not super-complex!

Oh boy, that thread on Sega-16 is where I discovered my love of Mega Turrican music!
I too will probably get around to this one day and it will be a glorious day.
Got any photos of your mod? I'd love to see some photos! :smile-new:

His a pic of the mod i did using retrogamer343 custom made PCB, took about an hour and a half in the end to do.

This is my VA01 board which has a 60hz/50hz/LANG switch fitted....

The CCAM PCB kindly designed and made by retrogamer343...

All the CAPS and Resistors removed...

    The CCAM PCB soldered in....

    And its final resting place....

I tried building that circuit many moons ago but I didn't have all the parts together so I had to stop midway...and then tried to resume it later without knowing exactly where I was. If I was better at designing PCBs I'd go that route.

I fail to see why this circuit has been incessantly talked about for the last 4+ years.

*wishes modders would learn some electronics so they have some objectivity*

Likely because the audio difference is noticeable. For better/worse depending on your perspective.

In terms of being a high quality audio circuit I'm sure it has issues but hell if I can build something better from scratch tonight.

That is some great looking work!
Tell me though, how would the circuit be affected if a 32X and Mega-CD were plonked around and in the MD2?

The circuit works with both of these add-ons. If you read through this thread
    http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showth...r-Sega-Mega-Drive-2-amp-Genesis-2-version-1-0
you will notice that there are 3 sets of main outputs (or inputs I guess) MD, CD and 32X that get's mixed together.

    Something like that lol!

Hey, nice job. I definitely want to do the CC Audio Mod to my Model 2 one of these days. One thing I noticed from the video is that some games benefited greatly (Sonic 2 and TMNT to be specific) while others (SOR2, Contra, CVBL), seemed to gain more of a distracting harshness up top rather than what I would call a clear, pristine, high end. It seems as though with the low pass filter cutoff frequency raised up, some of the high end distortions and other nastiness is allowed to come through too strongly that were previously filtered out or at least adequately attenuated. When I do mine, I will be lowering the cutoff of the LPF's to somewhere in between stock and where it is in the video. Thank you for the demonstration.

Just so people know my circuit I changed the lpf caps from 0.022 uf to....something that sounds better (I honestly don't know the value).

There are a lot of things in life I don't need to try to know aren't for me, this is one of them. Being a little familiar with op amps myself I know they are multitaskers; each can mix (sum), second-order filter and amplify in one stage, with a more stable mid-supply bias. *BOOM* Better circuit. My irritation is that this "mod" (or prior incarnations) has been spammed around for the better part of a decade, and not even self promoted anymore. It's just a lousy output stage! The bottom line is that "crystal clear" refers to a SUBJECTIVE reduction of filtering, not superior noise or distortion characteristics, which should be the important factor to those with golden ears.

Golden ears? I certainly don't have a pair of those. I can hear the fridge humming in my neighbours apartment though... does that count?
Maybe this mod isn't for me after all! *crosses it off the list*
Excellent! One less thing to do! :topsy_turvy:

I can definately hear a difference between a model 1 (up to VA7 but since PAL didn't get it....) and VA0-1.8 model 2. I simply got my hands on a VA2.3 model 2 did the PSG "fix" and am more than happy with it. Quick and easy.

Don't get me wrong I would like to try this mod, fo' sho' but just don't have the time. I have a NES toaster that I started 2 years ago....guess where it is lol! I do have to do myself up another Nomad though lol! Man they need to squeeze more hours in a day!

If you do manage to find more hours, I'd like to have a few if you can spare them.
How is it already the end of a weekend? :dejection:
