I recently acquired what is supposed to be a Sega Genesis development cable with the part number: VTM-000-280. Would anyone know what software was probably used, or if it was used with some sort of Genesis dev hardware?

    Here are some pictures below:

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Who said it was for development? It looks like it could:

-adapt the DIN ouput for use on Amiga monitors (DB15)
-extend controller and/or adapt to DB15 (Amiga?)
-input power to DB15 if that's a power jack (I can't tell if it's that or a UK style coaxial connector) but I don't know what the point would be

...said the very misleading eBay auction, but hey, got it less than $10 USD shipped. ;)

I had no idea what that particular DB-15 connector would have been used for, but it makes sense now. Thanks!

    sure :)
However, the joypad male/female connector would also have made sense (so you could still plug a regular megadrive joypad while debugging your game), just my imagination ^^.

...Instead of buying strange stuff, just make a DB25-DB9 adapter, it's cheaper...

So is there any consensus on what this actually is?

Could it connect to the serial EXT port on early Megadrives?

    It's definately a cable.

Tricky to say as it seems to have a joystick extender, video output and a possible power socket. Maybe it was used to debug games so they could get inputs of the game while saving screens of the game?

It looks like one of the cables for Amiga CD32 when you have the extended part which turns your CD32 into regular Amiga 1200.

It looks like the cable that came with the Victormaxx Stuntmaster Genesis / Super Nintendo 3D headset: link. The DB15 port is where the headset plugs into. The controller plugs into the male port and the female plug goes into the Genesis. The port that looks like it fits a power adapter is for the DC transformer that powers the headset. There should also be a tan / beige adapter that plugs into the round adapter for the video.

To confirm this as the Victormaxx Stuntmaster Genesis cable, I scanned a page from the manual (see attached).

The only thing that makes me think it might be sega is the 8 pin din.. its not the regular circular one, but the now deleted (UK anyway) offset 8 pin only used by a few things including the megadrive/genisis 1.. The small round plug is def for voltage in though.

No, it's not 1st party Sega, but it is for the Genesis. See the bottom portion of the picture I posted above. It's the cable that interfaces the Victormaxx VR headset to the Genesis. :)

lol I though it was an adaptor cable to connect two game pads to the PC's analogue joystick port
