Recently I purchased a decent sized prototype collection that included some Sega Genesis carts. All of the Sega Genesis carts tested fine except one of them. This EA proto comes inside a steel casing. It was the only one that did not load for me. Any suggestions?
only random thing that would come to mind is maybe its a 32x game? other than that, no clue why it wouldn't boot.
It could well be a 32X game. I presume you have given the contacts a good clean? Other than that I have had games on these big boards before and the tracing on the board has been damaged. This is unlikely as that case looks pretty tuff!
Hmm now I didn't think of that. What Good thinking guys. I didn't even think of the 32X. If so that means what ....FIFA? They didn't have anything else did they? Once I dig one out I'll give it a spin and see what happens. All the other Gensis carts worked fine. Hellfire,Blaster Master, Air Diver etc.
The shape of the casing makes me think of a NES game, but I doubt it considering the board has a copyright of 1995 on it. The bottom portion looks too long to fit in a toaster anyway. That looks like a lot of ROM chips for a mid 90's cartridge game.
if all else fails I guess you could still pull the eproms and dump them, not sure if the megadrive had checksums that could fail if any of the chips has started to go bad
The EA prototype did fit into the cartridge slot of a Sega Genesis. Now I would have to guess that a Master System cartridge would not fit. What about the 32X? Would a 32X prototype board fit into a Sega Genesis cartridge slot if the casing allowed it to or are they different sizes?
no,even if it did fit the cart wouldn't be read because 32X games use different chips and different reading methods
Of course it wouldn't work. That is not where I'm going with this. If 32x games have a different size board then we can eliminate it as a possibility. Same with Master System.
That's right the MS board is smaller. The 32X would fit however, works the same the other way round, hence why you can use Genesis games with a 32x plugged in.

This particular cartridge was part of a collection that I recently purchased. Real nice guy. He was just moving to another city. He was getting rid of some items that he had not used in a long time and raising cash to help facilitate his moving expenses.
