has anyone even seen this before? i googled it and got nothing but the ebay listing. According to the seller sega said "This was a device for more memory and possible peripherals that never really came about. There is not much use for this." i was wondering if anyone could shed some more light on it?

Isn't this the expansion port cover that comes with the Sega CD (Model 2)?

The e-mail shown in the auction seems to be referring to the port on the Genesis, and not the pictured board.

look at the last picture, the one with the system, it stick out of the machine, and the actual cover (wich is the same for both models) doesn't have anything inside it, unlike that one.

    that's pretty amazing stuff.

Wow, and it only sold for $13, if this device is legit, it should be worth far more than that.

i'm shocked it went for only 13 dollar. How would you go about checking if the device is legit?

    Ummmmmm.

I do not know if any of you are sarcastic or not, but that is a useless item. It only came with the 32x (since that is how I got mine). I wouldn't pay no more than $2 for the damn thing. And you really do not need it for the 32x as I've played on one without that attachment attached.

Technically it is a terminator bracket, like what you find on SCSI cables. It is to that the 32x will know that there isn't a Sega CD attached to the Genesis. That is the only time you use, is if you do not have a Sega CD.

That's probably where I got mine, couldn't remember if it was the Sega CD or 32x.

Really? I don't remember getting one of those with my 32X...But that was a long time ago...And I'm not 100% certain where my 32X is right now anyway, just that it is somewhere packed up in my parents house...I miss my 32X...

Just checked my 32X (its all inside its original box) and theres nothing like that. I have the electromagnetic shield plates, the genesis MKII adaptor, AV cables and power cord, but thats all.

The only extra thing the manual talks about is that CDX adapter, but I dont see anything about this thing.

Anyway, even if it thats an expandable memory I doubt theres any games at all that make use of it, so the only way to know if its works is pluging it to the Genesis and debug the 68000 to check if theres a memory upgrade or not.

Someone sent me few months ago some closer shots of the thing :
It is *just* hard grounding (or pulling down, I don't remember) several lines of the address bus.

It appear that the 32x just weaken megadrive's main bus (which is similar on both extension and cartridge slots).
It just get unstable on some megadrive models and with some games.

As a result, some games just crash without this adaptator (very rare, but happen) :)

With more than 40cm of unstable wire between 32x cartridge and ext port, thats not very surprising :p
