Hello, you probably know me because I post a lot. Anyways Me and my friend bought 3 Sega Genesis model 2 broken for 25$. I know some about them and he knows some about them. I thought I would have to do some soldering so I was getting prepared but I didn't need to. So we plugged them in and all of them powers on, then we plug them into the TV and it didn't read the games of course. So my friend grabbed some sandpaper and we cleaned the cartridge reader and they work phenomenal. They work so perfect, it's amazing. What a steal from ebay. We are deciding to put an led and spray paint them and I think putting the LED in is gonna be tricky. I can't wait until I sell these. How much do you think I should sell the genesis for. It will come with plugs and stuff.
Sand paper is not recommended for Cartridge slot. Unless you used super ultra fine grit. Sure it works but it destroys the polish and make the slot even more succeptible to dirt, corrosion and breakage. The basic trick is to get a credit card or similar thin piece of plastic, wrap a thin cloth like maybe a used T-shirt over it, wet it with rubbing alcohol and insert in and out of the card slot to clean it. If that is not enough there are products like Deoxit that do a better job. Worse case scenario only I will use Sand paper but as I said, only the finest one.
Yea, a guy on youtube that fixes video game consoles did that, but my friend did it the sandpaper way.
sand paper is too overkill for the contacts, I use it in the worst case scenario in carts and like Maxwar said the finest one.
WHAT?! glasspaper for cleaning cartridge socket contact teeth? good looking out everybody, their words reflect this video. here's a comprehensive guide: :smile-new: (a bit verbose, not enough of the point, but plenty of chatter) ^^ also, the principal can be applied to most cartridge/PCI sockets. if you find it difficult to get access to the socket, just remove upper housing. ... more results:
