I just changed the voltage regulator of my Genesis after a very terrible mishap.
What happened was I was testing out one of this really terrible SUPERITE stepdown/stepup 4 socket transformer that a friend gave me to use with my set up. I absent mindedly used a 120v American PSU in a 220 output socket on the transformer (WHY WOULD THEY BUILD THAT IN THERE?). I live in Europe therefore I need a stepdown transformer to play NA/JP consoles.

Sure enough the PSU's fried. The Genesis seemed okay as I switched different PSU on it, then I noticed the terrible buzzing sound, as if something was off with the ground.
Checking the side of the Genesis I noticed it was very, very warm to the touch. and I quickly assumed it was the Regulator that fried so I switched it with this one. *attached file

It's not even getting past the TMSS this time around, not to mention the picture is completely off, with the very terrible buzzing sound. the picture is kinda akin to a cold console thats not been turn on for a decade or so, before the capacitors get time to warm up.

Yup, I was using RGB output. So nothing to do with RF. I'm kinda at a loss here, and so far the board seems like it was alright. Let me know if you need pics of the board. I'm just hoping my anecdote was common enough for a simple suggestion.

Check your solder work for bridges.

Inductors and caps seem to be fine too as with most components.

Well after checking seems like some smds were burned right out, also a bad batch of regulators. Last time I'm ordering anything from China. After a few changes it's right as rain.
