I'm wondering if this AC Adapter will actually work on my Sega Genesis as well as a NES without blowing up either. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-Adapter-...ables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item56633c2965 Has anyone bought this? OEM supplies are getting scarcer.
From the specs it should be ok. I would get a 1.5A though. The genesis 1 uses a 9 or 10v 1.2A. The last cheap 9v 1A power supply I bought did not supply enough current to power a Genesis. Mine I bought straight from China though.
Yes I bought some AC Adapters like that for re-selling repaired Genesis 1 and 2. It worked but on my video setup (RGB SCART --> YUV Adapter --> Home Cinema Receiver) I had a lot of noise on the video output. They are really light and I don't think the power is filtered or anything. When I plugged the genesises directly on the TV, it was barely visible though.
Oh like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Power...t=Power_Cables_Connectors&hash=item4619b3275d I've done a google search for switching power adapters and noise. Too bad the filters aren't readily available.
The specs on that one are correct. I recently bought this one for my PC Engine IFU as the generic power supply that came with it was causing horrible buzzing when there was white on the screen. The buzzing was a lot less with this supply (although slightly still there) and it was a bit heavier than the junk one that came with it. The plug also fits into the NES and Genesis 1.
Specs wise it should work but don't be surprised if it burns your house down!! A lot of Chinese power supplies are poorly made and have creepage and clearance distances far below the safe minimum ie they could potentially pump 250v into the console or YOU! Had one of these Cheap adaptors (different voltage) as a charger that came with my icoo tablet PC, one night it shorted out, luckily the crackling noise woke me up and I caught it before it burned up, it was plugged in under my bed!!
Would adding a capacitor to the voltage regular help? I have heard about noise complaints on the SNES and that seemed to fix it. Maybe a 220uf one?
Hmm. Looks like I should focus on a Outside-Positive Center-Negative AC Adapter. The buzzing sounds may be from polarity, is that right? If it is, I can always buy those jacks.
You can usually run machines from that era all off the same PSU. Don't you have a spare SNES PSU lying around? The 7805 normalises the voltage to 5V anyway as I recall.
You're completely right. My bad. Never owned a US SNES so I forget. I bought a NOS Jaguar PSU for my AV Famicom, Neo Geo and PC Engine Core Grafx in the past.
Well there's this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-Adapter-...=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item3f253035be But 2A seems kinda high.
2a would be fine as the genesis will take what it needs. As for the ac adapter there very cheap and the cord is not that long.
