I googled, didn't find anything on this. I checked at Gamesx and they only had information on the Genesis 2/3/Nomad. So, does anyone have any information on region modding a Genesis Model 1(the one with the volume controls, and is huge)? I am also looking for information regarding overclocking the Sega Genesis Model 1. There was information about this online months ago, but its gone now. I am sure someone has to have a copy of it. Let me know!
Umm, it was on this forum.. go search, should still be here. And don't forget its Mega Drive in Europe/Japan
I'll search on the forum. I am in the US, so its Genesis to me, but yes, I know its Mega Drive across the pond.
Actually, I just looked, but every search I tried turned up a bunch of stuff that had no relevance to what I am looking for.
Oh yeah! That forum was closed!!! Umm ask assembler, was his post Or just type "overclock megadrive" into google google is ALWAYS the answer! use it first!
It's about changing the voltage for the chip,or replacing it with a faster counterpart. If you replace the 68000 with a faster model, and supply the correct voltage to it you can oc. I also recall you need to change the crystal on the board..
Here's info on the mod. Your Genesis may be a bit different as there were a number of revisions to the PCB and because yours is already set to NTSC, but they all have the jumpers.. http://users.skynet.be/DuNe/Console/stuff.html
There never were "instructions" per se, just some technical details for those who are actually experienced enough to do the mod without f$cking it up. Easy to do though, just look up the pinouts of the custom chips As I always say, if you don't know what you're doing, DON'T DO IT! Original link is dead, but was: http://www.bluespheer.com/host/epicgaming//hardware/md_oc/
Click here for info on how to replace crystals etc. to gain speed boost. This ain't overclocking though! As for the epic post (which is dead)... as someone put it... That should be simple enough to follow.
That's the mod i just described. Follow the trace from the crystal back to the CPU. Cut it. Insert new crystal. That's a straightforward procedure. If you don't understand it, I suggest you don't do it and go read up on electronics a bit more... for the sake of your Genesis staying functional!
Well, I WAS gonna help ya, but just took apart the only MD i could find and its an M5 board, which doesn't help. Um, unless I find another, you're on yer own! It really isn't difficult. Find crystal. Follow trace (there's 2 it could be) back to CPU. cut that trace.
