I recently discovered that I own the Genesis that Majesco was manufacturing before they started making the Genesis 3, Model MK-1451. I've heard that these are quite rare. Here's a side by side comparison between the official Genesis 2 that Sega made, and the one that Majesco made:

The one on the left was made by Sega, and the one on the right was made by Majesco.

My question is, how many of these did Majesco make? How rare are they? Do all of them not work with the Sega CD?

Over 100,000 going by serial numbers. Whilst Majesco's other consoles say "Assembled in Mexico", these ones say "Product of Japan", so I presume that these were just old Sega stock distributed by Majesco (mobos agree with this, some have a 1996 date on them).

    Edit: Related to this.

How did Sega cut its power requirements by roughly 66%? The one on the right claims it takes a 0.3A MK-1479 brick, like Genesis 3.
