I have a working Non-TMSS unit but it's a VA3, and i have good sound but i'm not worried about that anymore. Here is my problem with my VA3. If you know the yellow part on the board where the LED is held on to, The Red wire got broken off and i tried to solder wires on the board and the LED worked, but i have poor soldering skills and the wires came off the board. And do you got a spare HDG Genesis case for me since i cutted the LED bezel to fit the bigger LED. And what should i use to fix the LED wires on my VA3. The red wire is soldered on the board and i taped the white wire on the RF shield or any other metal and it works. Can i use a spare LED wire from another Model 1 Genesis as i don't have a desoldering iron. What should i use to desolder since i finally learned how to solder.

I would say learn to solder properly before you attempt to take another console apart.

You don't need a desoldering iron to desolder a wire. You'll realize that when you've learnt to solder properly. Read books, watch videos and find some junk electronics to use for practice.

He was told this a million times in the chat by me and others. We told him to find old/broken electronics to practice on and we also said DO NOT TOUCH ANOTHER MEGA DRIVE. Pretty sure this is the 3rd/4th broken one now. He messed up one and someone else fixed it here, Can't remember the other and there was one he got wet or something and plugged it in.

You have to learn somewhere but don't use good items use junk that has no value.

Well it's a Genesis known in US since i live in US.
Okay fine, And i might use a PC board that is not working or any other worthless stuff that doesn't work to learn to solder on first. And sorry guys. And i won't touch the genesis/mega drive. I meant desoldering is the LED plastic here. Here is a photo:[IMG]

Borrowing this photo here as i don't have a camera to take pictures of my VA3.

you shouldjust say forget it, and just solder the leads to the bottom pads and be done. i doubt you have at the very least desoldering braid. you are going to mess this up way more than it already is. at the very least go back to your roached one and practice soldering on it!

As has been said numerous times. Your soldering skill's are no where near good enough to modifying these consoles. You should just stop before you break anymore. Find an old motherboard or something, and practice desoldering capacitors and resoldering them. Only when you're confident you can do it properly should be pulling Mega Drives apart and modifying them. Make sure you get a decent soldering iron too. I've told you all this in another thread, but it doesn't look like you listen too well, so i'm saying it again.

So why did you take this one apart? Even if you had outstanding soldering skills, taking apart something that isn't already broken could... break it.
Unless you want to recap the console or something.

Based on your photograph, it looks like there should be two things involved here; a small plug, which your red and white wires are clamped into, and a small plastic socket/jumper block that the plug gets connected to. So what did you actually break?
if the wires just got detached from the plug, then you probably don't actually solder that. If you somehow broke off that jumper block/socket, then... well... all the best to you with re-attaching it.

Depending on what it is. Personally, I use a solder-pump, but a desoldering braid may be occasionally more suitable (i.e. to avoid tearing off vias).
The folks here may have better advice for you.

Uh, I mean... what was broken (not whether you did it on purpose or not)? I have never really seen a MegaDrive in person, so I cannot actually give you solid advice here. :/

So is it actually just detached from the plug? If it's what I think it is, you need to remove the metal connector inside (maybe with a small screw driver), re-crimp the wires and shove them back in. The metal connector likely has to be replaced, unless you can undo the crimping without breaking it (they're not meant to be reusable).

The other way, would be to replace the cable.

Well... if you're willing to learn, practice and try again, you could attempt to restore it because it doesn't look like you have made permanent damage yet (i.e. by tearing off the traces).

Why does the plug look like it melted? When the folks above suggested that you solder the wires directly to the mainboard, they meant that you do away with the plug entirely and solder the wires to the bottom of the jumper block.

So now the whole jumper block is detached too? Did you break the pins or did it come out cleanly?

If you do not have anything to remove solder, you should get something. At least a desoldering pump. But because you're dealing with fragile equipment, you probably also want some desoldering braid.

Or if you really value this set and don't think you're ready for this, you can either leave it to someone else or to just let the damage be. Having a non-functional power LED is not a blocking problem.

I wonder how you managed this. lol
    How is that even possible.

No, sorry. I have never touched a MegaDrive before lol. Maybe I've seen one before, but never again.

Honestly, you asked for it. You were warned and yet you don't seem to take the warnings seriously.
Not to mention that you've been destroying perfectly good consoles that are out of production. If you think that they're rare, I wonder why you don't seem to feel the need to value them and to treat them well. You needed to take your work seriously.

To be honest, at this stage, if I had a spare Mega Drive, I would probably choose not to send you it. I probably wouldn't even sell you one, because I wouldn't trust you to not destroy it. I don't mean to sound harsh, but all you've done up until now is show that you can't take advice. If you want a working Mega Drive, just buy one on ebay and play it. Don't take it apart.

Really, You should have found some broken tech and tried on that. Go to a tip and find an old crappy computer and learn.

We may seem to give you a hard time but it's only because we as collectors would rather a bust old PC is damaged instead of something that's old and nearly impossible to find new.

Did you bridge a circuit and short it out?

Can you take pictures of what you have done? It's quite possible you done what I said. Sometimes they come back sometimes they don't once you've unbridged the circuit.

Or if you want a console modded, pay someone experienced to do it.
