This interview with the head of marketing at Sega is an atrocity. In it he explains how Sonic is now only meant for gamers 12 and under. He justifies the completely broken Sonic 2006 game but saying how great it sold. He then talks about how Sonic when first released was for mature gamers like Call of Duty is to gamers today. Since Sonic cannot appeal to older gamers like in 1990, then it must be made for children only. This is the person who is in charge of this once great franchise. http://kotaku.com/5336675/sega-impossible-to-please-all-sonic-fans-with-one-sonic-game
"Does quality mean it's got to be a Metacritic 90 percent? Well not necessarily. It's just got to be quality that's appropriate for them." Bastard.
Marketing people are only allowed to say shit that justifies their existence. That's why they're in marketing. Personally I think Sonic jumped the shark a long time ago. Now they have him turning into a werewolf, for crying out loud.
He's not going to admit their massive failures; he's going to defend their bad decisions til the end. He's also in marketing, meaning he's not in charge of anything except advertising the games that get handed to him. But for all of you that are angry, the point of the article was that going forward, they'll continue to make Sonic games for 10 year-olds, and also other types of Sonic games for the hardcore crowd. Let's hope they have the right people making them. I have zero expectations, though.
Doesn't this guy understand that you're not supposed to underestimate kids when making games or anything else for them? Because telling a good game from a bad one isn't some mysterious ability that only people over 12 possess, and if you manage to make older people want to play your games, that's all for the better.
Lol,if they didnt screw gamers over(sega cd,32x ect.) they would be still making Consoles to this day
Once they rotated the camera behind sonic was when it stopped being good. Not counting 2 and 3's AWESOME bonus levels.
I stopped caring if Sega was ever going to "fix" Sonic a long time ago. I am now content to simply play Sonic games on Saturn to my heart's content and not worry about a new Sonic game ever coming out
Yeah, if Sonic was a dog you'd take him out to the barn then bang him over the head with a shovel. Still, New Super Mario Galaxy coming out soon, for both young and old. When I was a kid we wondered who was better, Mario or Sonic. Safe to say it's Mario now.
Ok... Maybe my mega man idea didn't work......but I bet we could all pull a good sonic fan game out of our asses.
Liked Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast an awful lot at the time, probably the last Sonic I liked an awful lot.
Sega shoulda just let Ohshima-san keep running with the series. :-( Now he's off making horrible vampire games (though I do give him props for Away: Shuffle Dungeon, great little game there) and Yuji Naka is... well... its best we don't talk about ole' Yuji Naka.
See, I must be weird, because '06 is the only Sonic game I can think of (apart from the execrable "edutainment" titles) that I think absolutely sucked. Thank God "His World" managed to sneak into a much better title (SSBB). Heroes and Unleashed weren't nearly as awesome as SA1&2, but they're far from "crap". Personally, I can't wait to see where they go after Secret Rings and Black Knight. Greek Mythology, perhaps? I don't care, as long as it's got a badass Crush 40 theme song to go with it. :3
