I remember somebody commenting that somebody was trying to convert LD games to CD. Or at least dump those games. Anyone know about that?
I'd love to give it a shot but I'm not sure where to start. Already got Pyramid Patrol and two Laseractives. Someone else was posting about a serious effort to get started but I haven't seen anything in some time.
I didn't think it was possible. But it should be. I may be wrong but if not then what I know of the Laseractive tells me that Mega LD games were basically Sega CD games on a big LD disk. I'm not sure if the Mega LD games ran only on the Sega Mega CD side of things or if there was extra processing hardware on the Laseractive side. If they ran only on the Mega CD side of it using the LD disk for more storage medium then it might be possible. Only problem would be the game size. A LD disk is rather large at the size of a 33 record. It holds much more capacity than a standard CD. Also complicating things is the fact the LD format is purely analogue. Mega CD games were digital if memory serves correctly. No one has been able to accurately get a measure on the capacity of a standard 11.81" LD due to it being analogue. I remember when I was in second grade (1997) the teacher had a LD player of some sort with a few of those discs in the largest 11.81" form factor. The first time I saw it I had said "Did the growth ray hit a CD miss?" Class was laughing for several minutes straight.
