    Would any of the Japan-based members be able to give me some idea on availability and pricing of a Sega Mark III (either boxed or unboxed)?
    eBay prices tend to be very steep on the rare occasions they pop up, and I assume that sourcing one from Japan is the best way to go...

    Are they really hard to find over there, or just uncommon? Approx. going rate?

    I'm just sounding it out, rather than looking to buy right now, but it's definitely near the top of my want list.

    I'd also be interested to hear about either model of SG1000, although I'd expect they are somewhat more expensive.

    Thanks in advance...

    Why don't you just look at Japanese auctions? You cannot buy from there, but you certainly can see prices. Non-rare things are usually pretty cheap there because of the lack of buyers.

    -> Omochya, Game
    -> Terebi Game
    -> Sega
    -> Master System / Mark III / Others

    Learning katakana is the minimum if you want to get into Japanese stuff. I'll let you do it :)

    Mark III's aren't that easy to come by these days unless you want to spend quitea bit. I bought my Mark III from Hard Off for 1500 yen. It was unboxed and caked in dirt. There was nothing I could do about it not having a box but I could clean it. So after 2 hours of taking the machine apart and cleaning the inside PCB and casing, it now looks as good as new. The only bommer is that the power switch at the back is bust so a piece of tape is needed to keep it down. No problem though, just have to find a new switch. Shouldn't be that hard.

    I'm somewhat on the trail of one, myself. However, through Yahoo Japan and eBay, you won't find a phenomenal deal. They have ranged from $65 unboxed to about $250 complete and mint. The older machines (SC3000 and SG1000) just go up in price from there.

    And this isn't including the hefty shipping charges if you choose to import it.

    Of course, this is just my experience so your mileage may vary in your searches. I'm primarily a JPN Sega 16-bit collector, so I'm not as intimate with that market.

    very nice system to get though - I would love to get the sc3000 myself - these came out in australia and new zealand (I think), so they're available in their respective auction sites.

    this discussion reminds me of an ebay auction I came across a while back - a Mark III clone/chinese release was on sale, and it went for quite a bit.

    even so, prices for these units have been going up of late. haven't they?

    I have a SC-3000, but I still need to get a PAL->NTSC converter for it :(

    And I'm looking for a Mark III too, so hard and expensive to get :(

    Thanks for the responses, folks.
    As it happens, I've had a real stroke of luck today and have just struck a deal to get a loose Mark III and a handful of carts at a very reasonable price :happyhap: :happyhap:

    Maybe I should start a thread asking how easy it is to get a Euro Kizuna next ;)
