I heard this is a very rare controller, but what I didn't realize was there was a game made that will only work with it.

This guy that lives in japan often post videos of himself playing stuff on actual hardware shows off the controller with a game that requires it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7yeJL4cQKQ

Were there any other mark III games that required the controller?

Alex Kid: BMX Trial came with the paddle controller in a box-set.

Woody Pop and Alex Kidd - BMX Trail were both games that came with with a Paddle Set.

Out of the games that support the paddle...

    Woody Pop (My Card)
    Alex Kidd - BMX Trail
    Galactic Protector
    Super Racing
    Megumi Rescue

All were games that supported the paddle and had the paddle shown on the box

The only other game to support the Paddle and didn't have the paddle on the box is Out Run (and it's fantastic to play with it too).

The Paddle isn't wonderfully rare, it's a bit hard to find sometimes but you can find them boxed for under Y3000

Megumi Rescue looks great. It would be fun to convert it to the Blackberry, the roller ball on that would be a good fit I think.

Both Woody Pop and Galactic Protector also require the paddle, right.

Haha, so you watch luke's vids, too, eh? :D:D

I, too, had never seen a paddle like that before. Then again, I haven't yet pursued the Master system, either.

Yeah I do. I tried to direct here about his psx laser problem but I don't think he bothered. Makes great videos though. I posted about it since yakumo has referenced it on his sight but says hes never seen one in japan.

At the time of writing that article on my site I had never seen one but these days I see it all the time in Manga Soko. They never seem to sell theirs. Probably because of the stupidly high price.

How much do they want for it?

I bought the two I had a few years ago for the sum of Y980 each boxed in good condition and that was in Trader 2 in Akihabara... I've not really been looking for them but did see a couple the last time I was in Akihabara and saw one loocally too.

They want 1800 yen for a yellowing unboxed one. way too much money.

That shop is very strange. They have no idea on pricing. You can find rare and very good stuff for cheap prices yet complete shit or bashed to hell goods for over the top prices. The have that Sapphire PC Engine game with a faded cover for a whopping 60'000 yen! Who the hell is going to pay that?

Yeah, if you watch the last PSX vid, he shuts the camera off right after... the thing blows up. So, that's all over with. :D

Anyways, are paddle-specific games any good? Obviously, Megumi Rescue is pretty neat. Basically, is it worth it (when priced right, obviously) or just a novelty/collector item? I do think they look pretty awesome, the controller. Then again I think the Mark III looks pretty awesome as well.
