  1. Here are the specs for the various video standards we've been talking about:

    NTSC M (USA, Japan):
    Line/Field = 525/60
    FH = 15.734 khz
    FV = 59.94 Hz
    FSC = 3.579545 Mhz
    Blanking Setup = 7.5 IRE
    Video Bandwidth = 4.2 Mhz
    Audio Carrier = 4.5 Mhz
    Channel Bandwidth = 6 Mhz

    PAL M (Brazil):
    Line/Field = 525/60
    FH = 15.750 khz
    FV = 59.94 Hz
    FSC = 3.57561149 Mhz
    Blanking Setup = 7.5 IRE
    Video Bandwidth = 4.2 Mhz
    Audio Carrier = 4.5 Mhz
    Channel Bandwidth = 6 Mhz

    PAL I (UK and some others):

    Line/Field = 625/50
    FH = 15.625 khz
    FV = 50 Hz
    FSC = 4.43361875 Mhz
    Blanking Setup = 0 IRE
    Video Bandwidth = 5.5 Mhz
    Audio Carrier = 6.0 Mhz
    Channel Bandwidth = 8 Mhz

    From looking at at them you can see that PAL M is much closer to NTSC than it is to PAL I. I might have to snag myself a Brazil cart just to test out because I wonder how much of a differents those few thousandths of a Mhz would make in the compatability.

  2. Thats always an option too, although knowing me, I would then have to track down whichever regions system would be required to play that game. It's so hard owning games you can't play.
