hi looking for some advice on what to do.
i have gotten hold of à sega mega cd 2, the problem i am having is that it wont read discs. The disc spins but the laser Doesn't seem to move at all.

Any ideas what this could be?

    Thanks for reading this.

well first and foremost.....don't make your font so big, stick to default font, you are not drawing any more attention to your post with that large obnoxious font. as for the rest, have you tried giving the laser a nudge without a disc inserted? Perhaps it is just stuck in place. Otherwise could be a snapped band on the motor / spindle assembly (or something like that I am not an expert) I am sure someone will be along to help............

Pop the top off the CD drive (the plate that surrounds the laser itself.

There will be a main cog that can be turned, wind this so the laser goes to the outside.

Turn unit back on and see if the laser goes towards the centre of the disc again.

It may be a bad laser or the unit may need new capacitors.

    This thread may help.

The cog is stiff as a board. Looks like its been grinding from the laser and the white cog. Got à laser i could use from à cd player would it be worth trying First. Not the best at soldering would an electrical shop be able to replace if needed?

Strip the drive down (refer sega-16 guide) to see if the motor is seized or something as well.

The motor will have a tag on it.

Actually if you contact a forum member here "APE" I *believe* he may have a spare Sony drive. IF he still has it, you could replace the whole lot.
