I recently won an ebay auction for a SMD Cart. I really didn't know what it was but I figured if I could get it cheap why not. The cart has 10 games on it; Street Smart, Cyber Police, Shiten Myooh, Aleste, Dangerous Seed, Wonder Boy III Monster Lair, Heavy Unit, Final Blow, Ghostbusters and Streets of Rage. I did notice that all the games, except Street Smart, have their copyrights text removed from the main screen. Also the Sega bootscreen logo isn't showing properly. I'm expecting it to be just a cheap repro of some kind, but I could be wrong, I really don't know what I have here.
I think it's really funny the way Streets of Rage has a Chinese (seems to be) name written in Japanese Katakana
No, it is Katakana (I speak and read Japanese) but I have no idea what it says. Sounds like a Chinese name.
Garbled as in nonsensical order. They're all from the end of the character set. "aiueiueo" does not sound like a Chinese name, lol.
No,it's not Chinese or Katakana pronounced as Chinese,is just random bytes to mask the original copyright text. It seems many continuous byte value used. Thus mapped to the font table in this game.As you can see ロワヲン ワヲン アイウ アイウエ イウエオ,they are just Katakana in continuous order. And I think this is a typical pirate cart that use 74 series chip to map the rom bank by accepting reset signal. And for the masked copyright text,I think is very common on early MegaDrive pirates floating on Taiwan and Chinese market.
Does this cartridge have a game selection menu or do you just keep pressing reset till you reach the game you want to play?
I have played both. Shiten Myooh is released as Shadow Blasters in the US for the Genesis. It's a sidescroller shooter with shooting upgrades and a basic story. The story's religious references are removed in the US version though. I have made a playthrough of it when I was bored a year ago. =P Dangerous Seed is a shooter , it's similar in a way to Terra Cresta if you have played it. Both are fine games. =)
