I have just carried out the below single switch region mod on my PAL VA6 Mega Drive:

    https://mdpal60.net/wiki/megadrive/regionmod/start

The region switching is working well, but I am getting an intermittent video issue. It's as if the TV is having trouble syncing as the screen rolls/flickers periodically. It almost always does it when first turned on, then usually takes a few seconds to sync and display properly and it's usually fine until I reset or turn off. It does it in both 50 and 60hz modes, but seems to do it more in 60hz.

Before I did the mod it happened occasionally in certain games (eg Burning Force or Sonic 2 in two player mode) but I just put that down to the intense scrolling in the games. Now it happens almost every time I turn the console on so it seems the mod has potentially worsened an existing issue.

I am using an RGB SCART cable for video, and have tried both SCART sockets on my TV (I don't have another TV to try unfortunately.)

Any ideas what could be the problem? My thoughts are either poor soldering or perhaps not thick enough wires, but interested to see what others think. It's not the end of the world as it always stops after a few seconds, but would be nice to fix.

Sorry I don't understand what you mean? Do you mean which video output? It is the larger one (not RF) connected to an RGB SCART cable.

Which rgb cable are you using? Where did you buy it from?

Thanks guys. I got the RGB cable on eBay from a seller called Hellfire Trading, it was only £5 so can't complain too much if the quality isn't the best.

If getting a different Mega Drive is the only option I might just live with it, it always sorts itself out after a few seconds so thankfully looks like my TV can just about handle it. Maybe I'll get a JAP model in future.

If your cable is using csync, you need to do a mod to the console to get correct levels from it.

The fact the issue happens even when in the original refresh rate implies its not what Druid said (or at least completely).

Yes I thought that too, it does also do it in 50hz mode but less frequently. Any way pf finding out which type my SCART cable is?
