"Il s'agit ici de la cartouche servant d'OS pour le modem MegaDrive (Japon uniquement) Pas de jeu inclus dedans, mais une fois connecté au serveur, il était possible de télécharger des jeux, comme les Phantasy Star Text Adventure."

This cartridge serves as the BIOS for the Megadrive Modem (only sold in Japan.) There are no games included, but once you connect to the server, it's possible to download games, such as the Phantasy Star Text Adventures.

What about the Sega Channel Modem (JP). I've got 2 of those but have never bothered to look in case something is on them. Did that get any games that weren't released as normal

You had to download the games to the cartridge, I was all excited when I found the Mega Modem and Sega Game Library cartridge only to be slightly disappointed when the package was new and unused. Most (but not all, although the ones that are missing are no great loss) of the games can be purchased on the Sega Game Cans Vol 1 and Vol 2 for the Mega CD. Well worth buying.

The Mega Modem also saw a release in Brazil, though it might be different hardware.

Cyberball also supported the modem by allowing you to connect to another user and play.
