hi guys sorry about my English...... after i done my mod to my MD2 VA0 then switched to PAL-60Hz mod it's work but without color i searched in Google for get the fix found it but no diagrams or pictures more detailed explanation. i have found this diagram but don't know where pins of [ R61 ] and [ factory clock ] on the mega drive motherboard :nightmare: and do you think i should use 3.579545Mhz ?
Probably didn't need to bump your thread so soon, but here are two links to help: - An old tute I wrote about 7 or 8 years ago with some terrible pictures and probably not the best installation methods, but it works - An update showing how I wired it into a switch like in your diagram Alternatively use RGB and you won't have any troubles with colour dropping from your output.
Will this help? http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showth...gion-Mod/page6&highlight=single+switch+region Note this is for VA1.0 and it is also using a 4.4xxM/hz 4 pin oscillator to "lock" the video encoder to Pal 50Hz and Pal 60Hz which *most TV's in Australia can handle. Basically how the one you have shown works is, when it is on 50Hz it uses the standard clock frequency which is feed into pin 6 of the video encoder via R61. When it is switched to 60Hz the added 3.5xxM/Hz oscillator is feed to pin 6 of the video encoder via R61. Where ever it is that you cut the trace leading to R61 is where you will take the master clock. I am pretty sure if you watch Damo Monsters video it shows all of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmW8UVtAnWM&list=PL9A3FA247ED90BB18&index=3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90scC8EhPqc&list=PL9A3FA247ED90BB18&index=4
Great! I did similar with the led, but used a dual coloured led (blue/red). With the single switch mod to get jpn, pal, usa it also puts out 3 colours red, blue and purple.
Are you using a PAL version of Sonic 2? Sonic 1, 2 and 3 were PAL-optimised (Knuckles isn't) and display some crazy behaviour in 60hz. Can't remember if my PAL copy of Sonic 2 did what you're seeing, but I remember flicking the switch in-game and having it get angry.
Sonic 2 has no region lock. There's no reason to attempt a switch in-game. Sonic 3 you need codes to start in the desired setting. Region lock overrides its auto detect feature.
hi MangledLeg and Lum i don't know what is my cart NTSC or PAL version just i know it is made in UK and i'm at work when i back to home will check it and let you know. btw when i turn switch to PAL region the picture back fine you can see below picture, i don't know why NTSC got bad picture but the game increase speed with NTSC and full screen make the game so perfect . i hop you understand me. sorry about my English
NTSC or PAL cart doesn't matter for that game. It checks the speed when loading up. You want the switch on NTSC, before pressing the power button.
lum my dear, i have switched from PAL to NTSC before pressing the power got bad picture, even my MD2 power ON it was still same problem bad picture just with NTSC mod when i back switch to PAL the picture back fine but the game slow
That's pretty awesome - didn't realise it would automatically sort itself out depending on the switch location, for whatever reason I always started it in 50hz and switched to 60hz when I still had a copy! Might have to see what's possible with Sonic CD - start the Mega CD in 50hz then switched to 60hz at the Sega logo IIRC, might try it differently to see if that fixes the brokenness I experienced before!
Yeah switching after starting has other uses. Lets some games play in Japanese. USA Streets of Rage 2, games on 6-Pak that contain it...
Yeah, I know about Streets of Rage 2 - I boot my PAL copy in Japanese (60hz + Japanese), then change the language switch back to English to enjoy it in 60hz. Is there any particular reason why the PAL versions of some of Ancient's games break when you change refresh rate in game? I've noticed it on SoR2 and Story of Thor. Maybe the presence of Yuzo Koshiro overwhelms the console and it lacks the ability to cope with any changes because it's so enamored with his soundtrack playing in the background
Nearly every Mega Drive game I own breaks if you try to change the refresh rate in-game. Which is a pain in the ass. Region checks can be bypassed with a game shark/PAR obviously, but sif the MD stack needs to be any taller! At least the majority of them are speed corrected so 50/60Hz isn't so much of an issue. It's still nice to have the screen filled vertically though.
I know this is an old thread but I wanted to share this schematic for a colorfix to the MD2. Useful if you - like me use a pic to switch between 50/60Hz instead of a physical switch, and are unable to find 4 pin oscillators with the correct frequency. Works great for me, let me know how/if it works for you. You need to cut the trace before R61 to disable factory clock going into the video encoder, and connect this circuit to R61. This forces the videoencoder to output PAL50/PAL60. R61 is located in the top left corner of the MD2 motherboard.
