http://ebten.jp/p/4974365702854 :biggrin-new: I wonder if you can just buy the covers. The premium comes with all four covers, so that's nice. However $2000 for an i7 laptop is highway robbery. I hope they get enough orders to make them.
Sad thing is I almost want buy it for looks alone, especially saturn and mega drive one :biggrin-new:
Oh damn! I love the Dreamcast one... wish I could afford it. Or wait, even if I could, I wouldn't buy it Seems like a gigantic rip-off, a standard i7 laptop for $2500 after tax, shipping, conversion... what the fuck is wrong with them??? Now if they just made the covers for all sorts of different computer models, I'd be all up for it.
Don't forget that you guys in the states always get computer stuff for pretty much next to nothing just like your fast food and clothes. The prices are bit steep but not that bad if you live in Japan and get paid Japanese salary rates. Still, too much for me.
So they're selling normal laptops with a painted cover? That's just stupid, I'd rather get a sticker for my own laptop. Not to mention the covers don't even look that good.
That's some serious money! I'd love one of them but I could never justify that sort of price! I assume they aren't made by Sega (as in a Sega listed product) but a third party?
I wouldn't call our prices next to nothing. My PC still cost me 1300$+ to build from the ground up. And a PC I bought ~9 years ago was 1500$ pre-built and it didn't even have a dedicated GPU. My parents bought our first PC for ~3000$ in the very early 90's. I wouldn't call any of that next to nothing. And these prices for the specs, considering it's a laptop and it's a "Specialty" item (Just stupid minor cosmetic stuff. Too bad they aren't ACTUAL Laptop versions of these consoles that you could take on the go and play) the price is about normal. The Mega Drive Laptop is ~1400USD$ Spec wise for the same price there are very comparable laptops here in the States. Though the MD PC is a bit weaker. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834216460 Essentially the Tiers are off by 1 in price in comparison. ~300$ difference I still would not call that next to nothing. And checking Part prices on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.jp/GIGABYTE-グラ...S6MG/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1360603057&sr=8-6 http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeFo...e=UTF8&qid=1360603072&sr=1-5&keywords=GTX+680 The MSRP of both is only off by ~20$
I dunno, ideally I would of liked the laptop to have a design "inspired" by Sega consoles, rather than just having a graphic of the console on the lid it'd have a whole colour scheme based on whatever console inside and out, with maybe also having functional buttons like the power button or CD eject having shapes based on the consoles, although that would be even more expensive no doubt. Also i7 or not those laptops still would struggle be able to run Sega's horrifically bad PC ports, 2GB of RAM and a dual core for Sonic Adventure DX? why!?
The DC one. The Megadrive one! Gotta love that. Wonderful find. It would make it better if those graphics where actually a molded shell.
When I said next to nothing I meant from my point of view due to the Japanese yen being stronger (Which is why I buy 3 to 4 US BluRays for the price of 1 in Japan) so to people in the US the prices of these lap top is way too expenssive but to people in Japan they're still expenssive not not that bad. PC stuff here has always cost more than Europe and the states anyway. I bet you could buy 2 terrabyte HDs in the states for the price of one over here.
Wouldn't that be more down to PCs never really catching on in Japan, seeing as Japanese phones were always (relatively) internet enabled while the rest of the world was using PCs and now the west are switching to Smartphones and Tablets and so are the Japanese which would leave PCs as still being comparatively niche in the home market?
2TB HDD US Price: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-ST200...e=UTF8&qid=1360644458&sr=8-1&keywords=2TB+HDD 101$ Same Drive JP Price converted to USD: http://www.amazon.co.jp/Seagate-Bar...0Y6G/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1360644466&sr=8-3 86.96$ Hard Drive prices have been bad in the states for the last year and a half plus. 2 years ago when I built my PC I got a 1TB HDD (A high quality samsung one too) for 56$. 2x1TB http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barra...e=UTF8&qid=1360644896&sr=1-2&keywords=1TB+HDD 154.74$ Same drives JP http://www.amazon.co.jp/Seagate-Bar...1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1360644906&sr=1-1 2 of them is 129.76$ USD
No idea. I guess most PC parts are imported which adds to the cost. Maybe now pc prices are up in the state but for as long as I can remember they've always been cheaper than Japan. I remember a few years back Assembler talking about how much it would cost to build a i3 rig which was way less than what I'd have to pay over here.
WOW! I love those. Especially the Mega Drive one. Imagine some people with their hipster macbook and you just turn on your Laptop in front of them with that "16 BIT IN YOUR FACE" Logo on top of it. Classy.
