Hi all, I have a House of the Dead DX cabinet with a large rear projection screen. Unsurprisingly the 16 year old rear projector is not looking good so I'm wondering if any one has ever successfully replaced it with a modern flatscreen? Would it be possible since there must be some complications with the lightgun element of the game (the TV output is Red, Green and Blue BNCs plus Yellow which is for the guns). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I just bought one of these HOTD DX units myself, and I have the same issue. I just picked up both a House Of The Dead DX and a Lost World Jurassic Park DX. The HOTD projector was DOA, but the Jurassic Park one worked. I went ahead and swapped the Jurassic Park projector with the HOTD one so I could play through, and it's worth noting that Sega used the same projectors for both their Model 2 and Model 3 DX machines. They are some of Sega's earlier DX machines - the later ones using VGA instead of four BNC connectors, in addition to an array of IR sensors instead of picking up the gun position from the projector itself. I want to check out the I/O and video boards for these older cabinets. Jurassic Park is rigged up for the newer guns with the IR sensors, however HOTD is not. I'm going to try hooking up the Model 2 (HOTD board) to the Jurassic Park cabinet (Model 3) and seeing if the software (HOTD) recognizes the IR sensors. If that's the case, that means at minimum we will be able to replace the HOTD projector with most the internals of a Lost World machine. I do have DX units for HOTD2 and HOTD3. I haven't had a chance to mess with the internals too much due to being out of state, however in the next week or so I'll be able to figure out what is what inside the cabinet and report back.
Thank you both for your replies. Oh well, I guess I'll have to try and repair it then. I've been wondering how the guns work. I guess it must be similar to console light guns - a sensor in the gun reads the flashes from the screen, right?
Depends on the machine - there were two different systems IIRC. You'll need the original projector, though.
