SEGA MODEL 3 ARCADE SUPERMODEL http://www.supermodel3.com/ FYI, those who like the idea of playing games like Daytona USA 2 (which never saw a home release) rejoice. The emu supporting this has been updated as of Dec 1st 2013 and now plays Daytona USA 2 at pretty much full speed with only a few graphical glitches here and there. This is as close as those of us unable/unwilling to fork out for an actual board will get. Good to see the emulator is still making progress. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ CORE PROGRAM: Download it from this thread on the official forum: http://www.supermodel3.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1040 This version supports: Widescreen 1080p Surround sound Multi threading Please note: One or more of the above features may be bugged depending on the title you're running. I've played Daytona USA 2 will all of the above with little to no issues. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ FRONT END: So you're not hacking commands in via command line have a look at using a front end for this emulator, I've been using the following: Supermodel-UI http://www.fastools.com.ar/sui/ Please bear in mind I've not tried any others so there may be better offerings. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ I've been having a crack Daytona USA 2 this afternoon and can say it's working great.
More than enough I'm currently running on an i7 2600k + 16GB ram + GTX680 - Not that much above the spec of your system (bar the ram). Bear in mind this should run at an acceptable speed on a Pentium 4 with a half decent GFX card so a core i5 should swallow this whole, and you can add in FXAA and MSAA in your driver settings, pump it up to 1080. I'm running it using an x360 pad, let me know if you have any problems configuring it. For racing games you want JOY1_ZAXIS_NEG as accellerate and JOY1_ZAXIS_POS as break. Download a front end for it as well so you're not hacking commands in via command line: Supermodel-UI http://www.fastools.com.ar/sui/ That's the front end I'm using which seems to do the job. Not tried any others so there may be better offerings.
Hmm, I honestly don't remember how well/poorly that emulator was previously. All games seem to run really well now. Wish the designers of this emu would make one for Model 2 as well, because the old Nebula emu is far outdated and doesn't allow joysticks.
My i3 desk top with 8gb of ram and NO special graphics card can run supermodel in 1080p at 50fps , Johnny so you'll have no problems
EH??? Visit the nebula website becuase I run most if not all Model 2 ROMS at 60fps and 1080p. That's one of the emus that was updated a while ago and runs most games flawlessly! I implore you check it out. I play Sega rally, Daytona USA and Virtua Fighter 2 frequently on that emu and it runs beautifully with full joystick support. Link: http://nebula.emulatronia.com/ Download version 1.0 and be amazed
I checked, the issue I had was that the steering was only Analog, so if you had a digital joystick you're kind of stuck. Though playing with a digital pad is pretty crappy anyhow. Regardless it's great to have these games go on.
I cannot endorse this emulator enough. Bart and Nik have poured their SOUL into making this emulator, and the result is one of the most astonishing and exceptional[ emulators EVER developed. If you so much as like Model 3 games just a little bit, it behooves you to check out the SuperModel Emulator. I am in heaven every time I fire up and play Daytona 2 and Super GT...two of my favorite driving games of all time. Running at a rock solid 60fps and with 1:1 perfect force feedback. Arcade bliss! The only thing that MIGHT dethrone those game is "The 90's Arcade Racer".
There's still some protection/gfx issues in some games but Scud Race runs perfectly, Daytona 2 with just some minor gfx issues, Fighting Vipers 2 - a bit slow. Other games have more gfx glitches, some playable, some barely playable. I hope Bart and Nik will find the time to make rest of the games fully playable, or someone with knowledge and skills will join the project (like Dolphin emulator with many contributors).
Nah, he means that the controls for the racing games aren't true digital meaning you have to hold the direction down for about half a second before it engages full lock. I know what he means because this seems to be the case with the saturn version. Its incredibly difficult to steer the damn car without looking like a drunk. I play these games on ether an xb360 pad or rumblepad 2 (dualshock clone) using analogue sticks so its fine for me, but I imagine its a pain with a d-pad.
Yeah I need to get a new USB PC game pad that has analog sticks. Although that still doesn't help a ton on Nebula because like I said the gas/brake are analog only, and that stinks. You wants to control the gas and brake with one analog axis? Again this is my problem with Nebula, and why the Model 2 racing games are not fun to play on it at all unless you use a wheel and pedals.
Again, I dont think thats a problem if you get yourself an x360 pad and just bind the accel/brake to the analogue paddles on the unsderside of the pad. EDIT: just worked out that if you put a tick in the box next to accellerate/steer/brake in the controller config it switches on analogue steering, take the tick out and it should now be digital
I've been trying for so long to get this running but for some reason my keyboard doesn't work when supermodel is loaded up. I've tried the config in supermodel for the keyboard also...no go.
That's an odd one, I've run this on 3 different computers and not had this problem. Have you tried unplugging and plugging the keyboard back in when it's running? Not sure what to suggest on that one really since I use a pad and don't touch the keyboard myself once it's loaded as I have everything bound to the pad. Though I know my keyboard(s) work as I was able to enter service mode to change the difficulty ect on each computer I played on. Try fiddling with the settings more, but let us know if you find a solution as others may experience this. Also Greg2600 - check out the edit in my last post
Yes that worked but the problem is still that Nebula won't allow me to use a digital button for accelerate or brake, so I have to steer and press up for the gas. As you said, I'll have to get an XBOX 360 USB controller or a modern PC USB controller. But it lets you map gas/brake to the top triggers?
The current setup should allow you to map digital buttons to accelerate and brake and map accelerate and brake to any button on your joypad. Just double click accelerate in the button config then press the button you want for accelerate and make sure the box isn't ticked and it works as an independent button digitally, do the same for brake. Sorted.
Greg....forget about using a gamepad for the racing games. You are doing yourself a serious disservice by playing Model 3 racing games with a gamepad. It behooves you to get yourself a force feedback steering wheel like the Logitech G27 or even the cheaper DFGT wheel. The games are transformed once you go from a pad to wheel. You suddenly experience that arcade feeling that you had when you played Daytona 2 or Super GT in the arcade on the real cab. Give these games the justice they deserve by using the instrument they were designed to be used with....an FFB wheel
This emulator requires decent PS 3.0-compatible videocard. Something like GF6600 or higher. Intel HD Graphics 4000 works fine too, some older radeons require special shader file available on emulator site.
