Handheld that plays original Mega Drive carts and comes with TV-out (NTSC). Made in China of course. Doesn't look too bulky and 7hrs battery life sound good too (Li-Polymer 800mAh). Was featured in this months GameLab magazine. Japanese reseller: http://kpp.ms/?pid=8941978 Bulk order @ Alibaba: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/207759639/_super_deal_handheld_game_player.html
Now that's a cool item as long as the audio is ok on it. If it's a MD on a Chip then the audio will be just as turd as everything else. I'll keep an eye open for a store here selling them and let you know what they are like. Yakumo
It's OT but since it's you who replied first: this months Gameside has a special feature on the Mega Drive. You might want to give it a look.
hmmm that handheld looks like the MD onestation. Or it is some clone of that. Not really an MD, unless somebody gives me some nice close ups.
Hmm it looks like a PSP...Hell lots of cheap chinese games consoles have look like the PSP, even the GameKing went from looking like a Gameboy Advance to a PSP. Still it does look nice, if the screen is good then it could be worth getting.

It makes absolutely no sense to me why they went with the 4 button snes/ps style layout instead of just giving it a six button layout. Do they even think when they are designing these things? EDIT: I also just noticed in the pic from the first link they show the system with Street Fighter 2 running on it. Funny that they show a game made for a six button layout running on their system that doesnt even have a six button layout lol
I think it's because these must be aimed at "lesser" markets. They are intended to be sold to people in China or other countries. It's clearly not up to the standard that we demand. The price tag is crazy too.
Im actually not sure, the shoulder buttons probably are the 5th and 6th buttons, however Genesis/MD games that use 6 buttons were designed with 6 face buttons in mind, not 4 on the face and 2 on the shoulders.
^^^^ Well there ya go, i guess the shoulders are useless. This thing is a good idea, just horribly executed.
If only they did implement the lastest megadrive 6 button joypad layout... with its wonderful directional cross & smooth buttons... damn.. what a waste of energy. I suspect a SNES, Nes clone will come with same layout, else it really make no sense... Great news anyway, can't wait to see review about sound & picture quality.
Maybe ASSEMbler can buy a bunch and sell them for around USD40. I'm with MottZilla on the design choice here: the PSP is probably the most wanted gadget over there. So just make it look like one and boost sales. Also they probably use the same model for other systems/PMPs. But if they'd ever make a portable SNES, now that would be a dream come true.
I saw these in Akihabara last weekend. Super Potato (of course) has a ton of them in boxes, none to try out. Another cheapo shop had one on display; the size is nice for something with a cartridge slot, but the stretched widescreen view and the price (7000+ yen) are turn-offs.
An overpriced MD-on-a-chip with 2 missing buttons and a stretched widescreen display? Where do I sign.
