A friend of mine is interested in one.

Is this something easy to find i.e. eBay etc...

How much can I expect to pay

Is it worth it or is it another Game Gear.

The Nomad only plays Genesis games. All it is, is a portable genesis. The thing is a battery monster, uses 6 AA's I think and that gets you maybe 2 hours of play. I have also heard the screen isnt to great on them.

However they are hard to come by and command a decent price these days.

I would tell your friend to get a PSP and mod it to play a genesis emulator. MUCH better screen and batt life. It also supports any region games, homebrew games, savestates, and all that other good stuff that comes with emulation!

Mucho thanks, that's the kinda detail I was looking for.

Totally agree with the PSP option as that's what I would do.

The screen is very much comparable to the Gamegear in quality, theres quite a bit of blur, so playing sonic games isn't as fun as it could be. After being spoiled by the likes of GBA SP and DS, usding old handhelds is quite tough - the low quality screens and munching of batteries is annoying. They fetch at least £50 on ebay, closer to £100 for a really nice one.

A PSP or GPX2 and using emulators is the way to go if you want to play these games on the move.

There have been various MD handhelds released lately. Theres licensed ones with 20 games built in, Tectoy sell one, as do other companies with different games. Theres also Russion knock-off handhelds which you can get pirate mini cartridges for.

I have a Sega Nomad. I agree with the above posts that the screen is GG quality, however, you can easily hook this up to a TV with its built-in TV-out.

I'm not sure if this is just a problem with mine or most of the production run, but if a game cartridge is wiggled just a bit while playing, it'll freeze as though the cart was removed completely. =/

If you friend still insists on getting one, get the AC adapter if possible. It'll save him/her tons in batteries.

Yes, I can confirm that. The Genesis 1 uses a different adapter, but oddly enough I found out that you can use a PC Engine AC adapter for that model.
