So, has anybody downloaded the SEGA RALLY Demo on xbl yet?

Just played an hour through it and I must say after an initial disapointment (Sega Rally Re-hashed over and over again) I must say that the Sega Racing Studio has scored well, they manage to capture the essence of the first iterations and push it to the next level, it's actually fun to play and I had a blast.

After 5 minutes and a couple of lost races, controls become intuitive and you start to take advantage of track deformations, sometimes it feels like you are a bit on rails but nothing major as the car still bounce like mad at full speed.

The Tropical 2 track IMHO is the best track of the demo and driving in the sands and mud is really fun. Graphically the game is superb and again I think they manage to capture that SEGA graphical touch so dearly found in Dreamcast and pre-Dreamcast games.

I'm bit disappointed that they didn't include deformation and damages on the cars but hey Sega Rally is arcade and fun so let's not bother with that. Soundtrack is quite punchy and gives you the rythm to drive like mad.

Overall I really enjoyed the demo seems to be better than the latest iterations on PS2.

    Download it, it's worth it.

Thanks for the heads up! I had heard it was on it's way, but have to admit when I looked before for a demo there wasn't one. I'll have to try it.

If you enjoyed it, I recommend DiRT which I just completed the other day!

Does the track feature mud deformation like Motorstorm? The initial screenshots hinted at it, but I have not been following the games progress.

I think so I only played Motorstorm for like 5 minutes so I wouldn't much on it. But the deformation does really impact the way you play the game, in a good way.

I played the Dirt demo when it came out and it's a pretty damn fine game too. I will get it some day. I always liked the McRae Franchise very much.

Just got Bioshock and Call of Duty 4 MP Beta so I'm pretty busy right now...

If it's anything like the first two, it's a winner.

I spent as lot of money playing Sega Rally and Sega Rally 2 on the arcades.

Sega Rally 2006 on the PS2 is terrible. Most people bought it to get the Sega Rally 1995 arcade bonus disc.

Motorstorm deformation was flat out cheap.

The dev videos for Sega Rally shows deformation of real mesh which looks quite lovely.

Damn, i'm tempted to unbox my 360 to try this demo out but... i feel too lazy to do it today (at home sick).

DiRT was average. Although the car handled as expected on road, the drivnig on the dirt and the buggy ride was just boring, felt more like a hovercraft than anything else

It must be: detailed terrain deformation is the big selling point for this new SR.

Ugh. The original Saturn Sega Rally was one of the finest racing games ever made. Sega Rally 2 botched things up royally with its bizarre and broken controls...the cars felt and slid NOTHING like they did on the Saturn version. I was holding out hope that Sega could redeem themselves with Revo, but dear lord, things don't look good at all.

Graphics look great...nice and vibrant. But wtf did they do to the controls??? The slightest press on the D-pad (and I mean slightest) or analog stick begins your car's turn-in. I mean there's absolutely no dead spot in the controls. You press and your car immediately begins to violently veer into said direction. This is not how the Sega Rally games of old controlled...no way, not even close. The cars feel completely devoid of weight which further amplifies the problem while the handbrake operates erratically compared to such implementations in similar games.

And then the frightening thing...at the end of the demo we see "Coming Soon October 2007"...gah! That means the control will likely not be tweaked. Damn shame too...the graphics, terrain deformation and soundtrack seem to be of a high caliber. Seems like Sega spent all their time and resources on those aspects rather than really ironing out the control. Disappointing is putting it mildly.

I know what you mean, the cars just handle like their hovering on ice or something, no tactile feedback at all. I wish rallysport challenge 2 would get an update, now there was a rallygame with spot on perfect controls and feedback.

    graphics are shit.

This is a let-down, considering that the graphics of Sega Rally 1 and 2 were quite good for their time.

The driving feeling is there however, and it feels very arcadey, which I approve.

Still , I can't judge a SEGA RALLY title without an arcade cabinet, a gear-box and a steering wheel... :(

PS: the game is very easy as welll, and the levels aren't sega rallyish.

I have played the full game (360) some weeks ago, and haven't checked out the demo yet. But I must say: the game is SEGA Rally worthy, and it does go back to the SEGA roots. I think it plays and looks very good. For me the did the job! SEGA Rally is back.

But apparently I'm one of the only one here on the boards

Wow, I never knew that. Was Sega Rally 2006 ever released in the USA?

Nope I second that, I think it's a good entry in the series and it brings a couple of new interesting stuff like track deformation.

I would even go as far as saying that is the best game I've seen in years from SEGA and it does have that SEGA vibe...

they should have kept some classic cars (Celica and Delta Integrale please) in the demo so we could relate.

Nope japan only release. And if you played that game you could see why. I mean it didn't even feel like sega rally at all, sorta like they just slapped the name on there.

Though since the original director left sega halfway through dev (Tetsuya Mizuguchi), the new director that came in changed things around and tried to make it a more realistic game.

Of course the execution of it was very poor.Funny thing was when playing a sega tester on xbox live he was telling me the game was meant for Europe. He did confirm that 2006 will not be coming to America.

Anyway I only did one track of the demo real quick last night since I was tired. I can say already that it is a lot better then sega rally 2006. And the sega rally feeling is there.

I must say I lit up when the game over screen featured the "game over yeah song". My only real disappointment in the game is that it runs at 30fps instead of 60fps.

The reason is you aren't steering the car (as in other games), you're actully steering the course.

It's another way of doing driving games but I'm not a fan of the "feel" of it.

I got the demo, Evo all the way... sega rally 2 hurt me on the DC, it was alright, but... in the same way that laying down doing nothing is... alright...

this one though... must say - muchos fun, it does have multiplayer via live right?
