I bought one off of eBay the other day (more accurately, my brother bought one). I looked for an official Saturn memory card, but there was one up there and it was $80 Buy-it-now. I didn't have time to wait for the auction to end, so we just went ahead and bought the 4-in-1 Action Replay. Will I be able to (reliably) save games and such? How well does it work with imports? Will my Saturn continue to function properly so long as I don't remove the cart? Any help is appreciated. .
Mine isnt a Datel and it only temporarily saves stuff, like long enough to copy it to the inbuilt save. Its a Boom 4 in 1 or something i have :drinkers:
Apparently with the one I bought you save to the Saturn and you then have to transfer it (it's more of a backup device I suppose).
What was $80 the official card? That's a major f'n ripoff! You have to save to the system, then move it to the 4 in 1. A lot of people don't trust them, but I have not lost any saves yet. Best idea is to only save files that you really don't mind if they get lost. They should work with all imports, but you may have to mod it for some 4M games. Check NCSX.com for the details on that little mod. Oh... don't be supprised if it doesn't work. Out of the last 50 I bought, around 10 or so didn't work right out of the box. - edit You beat me to it! I had to help a customer or I'd have posted sooner. :angry
I need to go buy one. I took out the one that came with my Saturn because it was dead when I bought it. Well, hopefully it will all work out okay, because I'm looking forward to playing NiGHTS and Virtua Fighter 2 :smt045 .
I've lost my 4-in-1 savegames thrice, generally I don't think it's worth the bother. But right now I dont really have a need for one, I have a Japanese saturn with official 4M and backup ram carts so I'm good to go
I suppose I shouldn't have too much trouble as long as I "back up" my save games on the memory card, and just keep them on the Saturn's memory as well. Believe me, I looked for a decently priced Sega memory card, but it was not to be :-( . Maybe I'll get lucky at the Raliegh flea market (they have the occasional hentai games, maybe they'll have a memory card some day ).
I've seen the last two, but I kind of wish I'd known about the first one. It's no big deal, as I wasn't looking forward to installing a region switch. Meh, my brother doesn't have the patience for bidding anyway. Besides, it needed to be here by Christmas. *shrugs*
Always keep in mind that if you do not find what you are looking for on ebay today, it will be there tommorow. I wasted a lot of money bidding on China junk and the crap did not work, but as soon as I got a Sega one everything was fine.
