I finally got a Sega Saturn, but haven't yet ordered the modchip or the Action Replay yet. But in the meantime, as I also wait for my cheapo dpdt switch to come in from HK, (uxcell of course), I've decided to prepare my Saturn backplate to install the region switch, an S-video connector, and two phono plugs. My question is, instead of cutting up that kinda hard to find piece of plastic, should I head to a Home Depot or something and ask them to cut up a piece of Plexiglass with the same dimensions as the backplate, and have them cut some holes in it for the jacks and switch? I guess I can tape it to hold it in place.

if you dont wanna put holes in your saturn better optin would be to get a jap or European SCART cable, do a universal bios an if you need it a 50/60hz switch(can be mounted inside the back plate) (or switchless) that way everything is inside the saturn and the scart cable carries RGB audio L and R and also S-Video signals which you can break out easily so you get a modded super saturn that looks stock, dont need action replay, and can invest in a official memory card.

just my advice of course if you get a universal modchip then all you need is 1 wire for 5v, i got mine from consolegoods n would recommend giving them a shout they stock both chips one is a little cheaper than then other.

The only place I can order NTSC SCART cables are on eBay, but I don't use Paypal.
And it seems I want to use a region switch because of the talk about region free bioses and not much of an emphasis on patching.

and thats fair enough i suppose on the scart and ebay, (and after thinking about it im not sure if the SVIDEO pins are wired up in the scart cable i think my official one only has R G B, L R audio, C-video/sync wired up however i could be wrong)

as for the bios i've found it works perfectly i've had no issues playing games from any region, what needs patching?

my tv allows switching between inputs on scart eg can be set for composite / RGB or Svideo via scart, but as far as superseding signals if all the pins are wired and the TV can select the correct signal there shouldnt be a problem, pins are all there on the saturn av port, just needs to be wires in the cable.

so if the dc wanted just svideo he could rewire the cable or get a s-video cable for the saturn. although they may be expensive, someone should really source a load of 10pin mini dins

c-sync and comp video are carried on separate pins so wiring up a fully wired scart cable would be easy enough (or just s-video)

edit: my main point wasnt for him to use the scart cable direct to TV / display device but to use the cable and take the outputs but as i said i was wrong and the official cables dont carry s-video(at least the pal ones dont)

but i see alot of cables on ebay i dont know if they are fully wired but if they are then bingo just tap the pins you need from the scart end of the cable.

You don't need a paypal account to buy on eBay, you just click "pay with card" paypal is used as the checkout system but doesn't log any details unless you tell it to.

This seller on ebay stocks the back plate occasionally. I bought a couple and all of his LED riser's for the Saturn. Have to check his items every once in awhile if you want to do the backplate mod.

I went ahead and modded the original backplate. Everything fits, though I have to be careful about the phono plugs touching the battery. ;)
On wiring the +5V and the Ground, is it okay to daisy chain them to the DPDT switch or must I have separate wires from each of the jumpers? And is it okay to daisy chain the ground to the phono plugs as well?

OK to daisy chain, it's still ground and 5v in the end. My Saturn video mod has only 1 ground wire to the RCA plugs and S-Video plug. Makes it a bit easier to work with it and putting it back together. Quality wise, it's hard to tell if one ground wire is bad or about the same as having 6 individual ground wires.
