Looking for a Quality Replacement Laser for my Model 1 Sega Saturn that will read backups. Seems there is more bad sellers with junk lasers than good ones . So far I have 3 junk lasers from Ebay and 1 from Amazon Optima 6 and 6s. Yes I know about the static solder jumper
Did you also check signals with an oscilloscope? It's basically random whether a drop in replacement laser will work with the old potentiometer settings. All you can expect is the mirror ok signal to work, so the drive should start spinning.
Ok I see 4 pots on the laser board not counting the one on the laser for adjusting laser power . What do the 4 pots on the board do ? I don't have a scope but can get access to one, and I know that adjusting these pots blind will not end well.. The laser I got from Amazon is the only one that will spin a disk but will only play pressed CD's no games.
Sorry, I have no idea. I think there is a little bit of information on Saturn adjustments scattered around the net. If this is anything like other consoles, you need a full procedure though.
If you see 4 pots on the side of the cd board, then it is a 20-pin drive, and you can use the calibration procedure written in the VA0 service manual which can be found online.
Any one have a copy of the the calibration disk so I can use service manual ? Yes Driod III my console is Japan 20 pin VA1 . I have found a copy of the alignment disk and the service manual.. So I'm good now..
