Hi, Django! back to bug you guys about my Sega Saturn. Well, I talked to Assembler several months back about the Model 2 Swap Trick. He, and most internet instructions, said it was very difficult to do. So, if possible, Ive decided to get a MOD chip, mod my Saturn, and play some import games and some burned ISO's that I have sitting on my computer. Can anyone link me to someone who provides MODding services, or sells mods? I have a solder gun, and Saturn's are pretty cheap, so I dont mind if I screw it up. Any links or info would be appreciated.
Just buy an AR or GS and drop it into the cart slot and you can play imports just fine. That's the easiest way. If you want to add a switch, do a simply net search and you can get the docs real easy. There's a small jumper block that determines the Saturn's region. Run a switch to this jumper block and you can switch the region before you power up. As for the copies games on your computer...buy some originals. -hl718
http://www.jandaman.com/games.mvc?p=satmod&Category_code=SAT I bought my modchip for my model 2 saturn there. I didn't even have to solder it in really. Much nicer than AR or whatever else.
bear in mind that a plain mod chip does not disable region protection - you would need a mod chip and either a switch or AR to play both imports and burned games. Alternatively, you could burn off a patched copy of the imports and play them with the mod chip alone
Yeah I bought one from jandaman too. He runs a very reliable shop. However you do have to check the amount of pins on your saturns ribbion cable. They must be 21 pins in order for it to be compatible. Plus soldering to the cd board can be a pain in the ass depending on which chip is on the board. Also be careful with handling your saturn after the mod, i accidently dropped mine and my mod chip fried never working agin.
I have one of those Chinese cartridges that fools the Saturn in to only booting the country code of an original disc then sends you to the BIOS screen giving you an instruction in broken English telling you to put in your CDR or import. Works like a treat. Stops the CD from spinning and everything plus has those cool messages that are super imposed (or at least looks like) over the original Saturn background. Yakumo
They extremely difficult to find here in Japan. The one I got given by a friend had the price sticker of 5800 yen !! That's about the same as a fully priced game. They are great little devices that really save you doing any damage to your drive. The whole process of changing discs does take a bit longer than a normal disc swap mind you. Yakumo
Django was also the name of a skilled gypsy Jazz player, who played despite his handicap. http://www.redhotjazz.com/django.html
