Sega Saturn Obscurity

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by GenkiVideoGames.com, Mar 27, 2006.

  1. Greetings. [IMG]
Just puzzling over a couple of titles we can across on a recent buying trip and was wondering if any of you crazy dudes had any ideas what they are....? The guy in the shop kept them behind the counter at all times, not surprising considering the sort of money he was talking... (Probably had his finger on the trigger too under the counter.)[IMG]

    To cut to the chase:
The first and more substantially insured title was called Eyeful Home...
The second no less demanding of round the clock security was called Haimu (in katakana) Waltz...

Should I be looking to book a flight back...?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

They are both very pricey. They are "open house" demos. If I'm not mistaken, there are only 50 of each in print. Their prices have cooled, but they're both in the 40,000 yen range. Here's one that finished not too long ago. Expect about the same for Eyeful Home. Delisoba Deluxe is IMHO a better obscurity to buy. Yeah, it's a goofy, clunky 1-stage racing game, but at least it's a game, and it was developed by Cave of all people.

  3. Wow man. I should have guessed they'd be on your site. And here was me thinking we'd discovered the next Taromaru.... Mind you if there are only 50 I guess the prices are pretty respectable. Still a wee bit much for a few house plans I guess though.... :icon_bigg Thanks for letting us know as I don't think the shop owner was too keen to give it a spin on the demo machine.

I'll keep 'em peeled for Delisoba Deluxe if there's an actual game in there. Especially by Cave. Might have to think about getting a safe to house it in though. Are there any other low print mystery titles out there on the Saturn? I think we need to get a title published and release fifty copies, then just drip feed the market with a copy every month or so. Mr Delisoba is no mug... ;-)

There's a poster here who own Delisoba Deluxe. It's a very quick game, and not that impressive by any stretch, but hey, it's at least a game. Those three are definitely the rarest released pieces, even though they weren't games. Taromaru would definitely be rarest/most expensive of the real games. Final Fight Tough is on it's way it seems, and should hold a special place in Saturn fans hearts as it's the last "real" Saturn release.

There are of course others that are tricky to find. Mizubaku Daibouken took me ages, but was worth it.

  5. That dude must be one dedicated collector, or the luckiest bargain bin rumager around. :icon_bigg Do you know how they were released? Was this sort of rarity just a Saturn thang or common on other systems? Not trying to be too much of an anorak (although the thought of having it on our site is very tasty - so much so it gets my chops slavering), just need to know so I can emulate it with my own release... :033:

Definitely gives me a buzz to know there are still mystery titles out there. Glad you found Mizubaku, well worth the search I've no doubts. Final Fight Tough is appropriately named. We last saw it for it for $250. But I guess there will always be something special about the last release. Not sure what you'd count as the DC's last release though...

I have Delisoba (I wonder who kindly picked it up for me;-) ). As GP says its really not bad for a freebie. I believe it was given to audience members of a TV Gameshow in japan. There was a copy for sale on ebay uk recently..no takers at £400.

I have Waltz too, but its sealed so I can't say how pointlessly crap it actually is.

Also, isn't it Final Fight Revenge? I thought Tough was a SFC game? The boxset is quite hard to track down but the game only version is everywhere, lots of sealed copies too.

I suppose the games I have found hardest to track down are D&D Boxset and Astra Superstars, but I'm very fussy so pass unless they're mint! I spent ages looking for a sealed Astra then, as often happens, got 2 in the space of 12 hours! (Still need a sealed D&D Boxset though hint hint)

  7. Wheela by name, champion Wheeler Dealer by nature I guess. I hope your collection is well insured. I think we'll have to set up a GenkiVideoGames tv show and then we can give away some copies of our game to the audience.... Anyone up for it? :icon_bigg
Sorry mate, you're spot on: it is Revenge. The price we were quoting was for the box set, but it still seems extreme. I guess the box set would be rarer than the stand alone though in terms of print run eh? D&D does seem to be catching up well recently. And a sealed Astra SS...? If the man 'Deli Soba' Wheela can't manage it, I don't fancy our chances :icon_bigg .... But we'll certainly keep an eye out for you chief. Do you have any other extremely limited games?

Cool, except its a sealed D&D Boxset I need.

I don't really have any extremely limited games tbh. Others here have loads of exceedingly rare items, dev, protos etc. I'm solely a released games/demo/promo collector, items that are by their nature not that limited really. (save pal 32x which has a couple of very scarce titles)

  9. Oh aye, so it is.....
Yeah, I mean I have enough trouble finding out about released titles (besides reading English!) without having to dip my toes into the proto market. I guess that is one step beyond, but fair play for such dedication. Can't remember the last time Game had any proto's in... Anyone else know any scarce releases for released systems?! Please excuse my wet-ness behind (and in!) the ears. But if you don't ask.... :icon_bigg
