    Good day to all!
I have a EURO PAL SEGA Saturn Model 2 with a Sanyo Board, (Saturn assy cd unit sat sanyo +5v / 610-6185-30 kpc 4594v-0) (Not a 32-pin nor a 64-pin chip board)

    This one:
    http://imageshack.us/a/img24/4788/6yai.jpg

I have a lot of experience with electronics and have successfully modded countless systems, and I want to buy a 100% compatible mod chip to install on the above Saturn.

I found this 21pin modchip sold by Rob Webb at consolegoodds.co.uk:
    http://www.robwebb1.plus.com/saturn/saturnchipguide_2.htm

Which is supposed to be compatible with all 21pin model Saturns, (the required ribbon cable is included with the modchip) and with the Sanyo board versions based on the installation guide at the bottom.

    1. For anybody that has used this specific mod chip, can you verify that it will work 100% with my above Saturn Sanyo board?

    2. Is this mod chip the PCB V3 (Universal) mentioned here?:
    http://www.segastyle.com/saturnmod.html

    3. And will this 21-pin mod chip from Rob Webb truly work 100% with all the following Model 2 Saturn if I was to buy more?:
Oval power and reset buttons / 21 pin ribbon cable / 64 pin IC.
Round power and reset buttons / 21 pin ribbon cable / 64 pin IC.
Round power and reset buttons / 21 pin ribbon cable / 32 pin IC.
Round power and reset buttons / 21 pin ribbon cable / No IC (AKA Sanyo Board)
    Thanks in advance.

    4. Also will his 20-pin mod chip work 100% with a Model 1 Saturn:
Oval power and reset button / 20 pin ribbon cable?

    Thanks in advance

For you i recommend you resell this sanyo Saturn as CD-rs will kill this lens you can't replace this lens ever.
Robs chips are the best just make sure you don't put 9v on them otherwise they blow.

People love repeating that without any engineering background of their own.

Depends on the quality of the disc. Poor quality discs = more reread attempts = more strain = dying faster.

Its not "CDR's kill lasers" its "shit discs kill lasers" be that CDR or pressed.

CD-R/RW has lower reflection than moulded CD.

I can confirm that the V3 universal sold by segastyle (linked above) works like a charm on a Model 1, 20 pin good ol' black Saturn. Also, a monkey could do the install.

And in general CD-Rs don't kill lasers, at risk of boring the shit out of everyone, all CD writers produce some errors, and the media used can compound this. Even pressed Saturn games will contain some errors. A lot of errors on a disc can make the motor and assembly that move the laser eye work harder to extract the data required. To avoid this try and use a good quality media, a decent burner and the software and settings detailed many times in other threads.

Personally, I use regular Maxell discs (not CD-R Pro) burned at 8X on the Superdrive in my iMac using IMGBurn - no coasters, my Saturn runs quiet and loads fast(ish).

    Hi everybody,

I'm new here. I also have bought the PCB V3 universal Modchip from segastyle, but it doesn't seem to work.
I have a german v2 64pin Saturn and i, explicitly, followed the installing instructions from the segastyle website. With the modchip plugged into the system, the saturn just jumps into the cdplayer gui and does nothing. It doesn't play anything, wether originals, nor backups. When i unplug it and put the system back to original state, original games work fine. Replugging the modchip results in jumping to the cdplayer gui.
I tried the modchip with the delivered ribbon cables and the original cabel on the CD - > modchip side. Nothing helped, it just won't work. Does anybody have any ideas what goes wrong?

Thanx, in advance, for your help and ideas

Push the black connector(s) on the chip, there's a chance it got a little damaged in post. My SSCI8 chip did what you mentioned, and that was my problem. Hopefully it can work for your chip.
