Hey guys, I would like to install a pair of phono jacks for direct audio out from my Sega Saturn, similar to this (apologies for poor quality picture) but without composite video out. The Saturn AV port is slightly broken on this particular device; the RGB out is good as expected, but the audio is distorted. I'm figuring a direct audio out works, I can cut the audio connection on the SCART end and have clean audio. I was going to work off of this diagram (but rather than using the SCART cable, I'd be using two phono-out jacks, and would only connect audio to them). I can see where I'd be connecting the audio L/R wires, but where would I connect the ground? Also if I've missed out an easier solution, feel free to point out my dumb mistakes. Cheers guys.
You can almost connect the ground anywhere. The audio ground circuit is not isloated from the rest of the ground. Here's a ground location close to the a/v connector.
Would doing this mod remove the noise from the audio? I use a pretty good RGB cable on my Saturn however when you get a white screen or anything bright there's a awful buzz noticeable on the audio. What would be the best way to remove this buzz/noise?
Bummer. The optical audio mod isn't easy at all So what would be the best way to shield my RGB cable? Is there something I could do to reduce the noise?
Thanks man, looks like it'll be a pretty simple mod in that case. I've been thinking about doing the same for the PSX and Dreamcast too. I'll try and remember to post updates as and when!
