The board in that pic is pretty large for what it is. You could make one on stripboard the same size.

Can't imagine that would look good. For what it's worth though all the screws in the system looked untouched. But it could just have been made by a person with better screwdrivers than me :)

not the perfect thread to post this but this is a reply to Druid II request regarding the PLL chip on the early Saturn units:

Inverted area of the PLL : (if you doubt me take the original picture and invert it's colors ...

    Finally the SAVE RAM modification:

Sorry for the extremely poor lighting conditions but I'm not a photographer ...

P.S.: (Downloading the images and inverting the colors do work if you want to see the details...)

Huh so it is safe to run wires through the vias. I was afraid it would cause some sort of inductance.

If it's not something that runs at high frequencies (also notice that the through holes I used were for grounding vias, which serves to reduce problems in case the signals are of higher frequency ...) there should be no problem at all.

The PLL/clock generator? Sure it's custom, custom frequencies need a custom part. What is there to figure out about it though? The schematics give a lot of insight.

That's brilliant :) But let me get this right. It still depends on the battery, so when it eventually will die the saves will be lost?
You mention that you have to set language, date and time when powering it on. Does this also apply if you keep the system plugged in?

The power switch cuts the power from the PSU completely when you turn the system off. It has zero power being drawn from mains when you turn it off so yes, it does lose date/time every time you turn it off.

I'm thinking of someday do another circuitry for the date/time part of the SMPC but instead using an SANYO rechargeable battery of same type that is used on the Dreamcast.
