i wanna say thank you for uploading the saturn blueprints/schematics
its absolutely my favorite console second only to the dreamcast

now if we could just get clones of the saturn

 

i know it hasn't stopped the clones before.. but isn't the Saturn only 14 years old
patents only run out after 20 years dont we still have a few years to wait before " legal " clones could be made?

isn't there a custom Saturn bios floating around if i remember right?

 

There are already Saturn schematics on the web, but I don't remember them being official; these are quite nice. What kind of tampering?

There are so many components that nobody in their right mind would have another PCB made, it would cost a literal fortune. Also that means nothing could really be miniaturized. There are so many HUGE LSI chips, nothing is being cloned thanks to the schematics.

The real significance of schematics are the signal names for hardware hacking and repairs, and bus connections for deriving chip functions and algorithm feasibility.

 

well it COULD be done because hitatchi made a saturn under liciance call the hy.saturn they are the same ones who provided the CPU's for the saturn so alls we would have to do is call them up and perswade them to shrink everything they do have the CPU Schematics still

TEC TOY was the Brazil producer right?

 

Well justice being made, in fact Hitachi, Yamaha and JVC built the Saturn for SEGA. What SEGA did was tell these companies what it wanted (hardware specs) and then develop the software specs. All details regarding chip development are deep within these companies vaults... :thumbsup:

If you were crazy and your time was worth nothing, you could rework the pcb smaller down to about 2/3 of its original size, assuming you moved to a 4layer pcb. But it's really not going to get any smaller. And then you have to use rework tools to move the chips over to the new board, and resolder all 9 million bypass capacitors and other garbage like that.

However for those interested in modifying their retail Saturns this could be quite a help. It's pretty readable unlike lots of the other system schematics out there.

 

a front side bus overclock might work but your probably right likely wont work

Making a Saturn Mini is way off track here. Remember taht the PCB's are multilayered and pretty stuffed, anything smaller than the original saturn even by a couple of cm would be a feat.

Well. for sure NOT in 1997 (this is when that board model was being sold)

Lattest boards (VA14 or VA15 IDK) use a single chip dual core SH2 which has less pins (looks like the YGR19 chip from the CD-ROM interface)

 

45 nm for 1997 would of been an amazing feet lol

there is some good news about the SH2 its still being produced
its current life is in the ethernet and motor control timer sectors

by the way did your contact ever mention what was done to these schematics to change them?

 

The guy pasted his company name/website on top of the original name of the schematics. Worry not as the schematics itself are not changed in any way.
