I have one question which is probably stupid, but I'd like to ask it.
Once the saturn has read the security ring, it is fine up to the console power down. Would it then be feasible to:

    1) Start the saturn with an original game and let it go normally
    2) switch off the spindle motor by a classic switch. The game would probably have some errors because it cannot read anymore (maybe pausing the game could help?)
    3) open the lid (assuming we tamper the door detection switch), wait until the CD completely stops
    4) change the CD
    5) enable the motor by closing the switch again
    6) press reset

Or is this a bad idea for some reasons?

seems alot of effort if you're going to wire in a switch to the motor you'd be better off installing a mod chip.

as for your question, im not sure never attempted swap trick on saturn, just ps2 and original playstation.

well the swap trick on the saturn really do harm to the motor you are forcing it to stop. Is better to go with a modchip.

Go with a modchip. If you've got a model 2 I'll install one (and ship it back) for the price that Racketboy wants just for the modchip.

Even worse, you're in Columbia; not exactly cheap to ship and virtually every package I've sent there has been under scrutiny due to my being in an area well known for marijuana cultivation in national forests.

I was thinking about buying a batch of universal chips but my budget is rather tight until August. They would be about $25 each IIRC.

I think turning the power off and back on (which its supposed to be subject to, by design) is less taxing than physically fighting against it trying to turn.

I tend to agree. Simply shutting off the flow of electrons is no big deal as there are no moving parts in the wires/magnets but the motor itself rotates physically and anything beyond it moving under its own power is not what it was designed for.

Just use a modchip, there are universal ones, for both 20 and 21 pins cdrom ribbon, that works well and are easy to install. Also, depending on how the electrical motor is made, blocking it could cause an increase in the current in it, burning it if you hold long enought. I can say for sure for the saturn though.

    First: Columbia ≠ Colombia

Second: I know perfectly what you feel about being in an area well known for drugs production, there's a lot of prejudices against us by the infamous cocaine :(

Fortunately by reading this thread I just discovered this universal v3 modchip suitable for the Saturn Model 1:

I'll order one. Dont worry, I can do this kind of mods by myself :encouragement:

Thanks anyway for your help offer. You're a nice guy

The same chip is cheaper on consolegoods.co.uk they don't sell it on their webstore, but contact them via email and you can arrange shipment/payment. That's what I did!

Clearly not getting enough sleep lately to make such a basic typo.

Thank you everyone. The problem is that shipping to Japan is quite costy.
And a mod chip is 40+$ if I am not wrong, while a switch + a flyback diode is essentially free.
My wonders are what the consequences could be, for instance, of having a laser projecting to a still CD, or if there're other bad things that can happen to the HW. I have no problems with soldering by myself.

the laser could burn a hole through the cd and your hand and roof etc.

the spindle will get the most wear and tear with constantly swapping(getting double the use it would normally).

The reason they don't sell it online is because paypal doesn't like modchips. I paid £16.90 (~$25) + shipping for mine, I arrange payment via a member here located in the UK.

The rare Magic Card v2 Cartridge pretty much does what you've suggested to do with a switch.

You still have to block the sensor but it automatically stops the drive and tells you to replace it with a CDR....press start and then it boots.
