Hello fellows I am slowly in the process of re-doing my modified Sega Master System 2. I am changing the RGB connection from 8 pin u plug to 9 pin mini-din in an attempt to neaten it up (looks like a birds nest in there). The scart connection is not 100%, at the moment the cable just grips in (the hole drilled is the same diameter as the plug hole so with the extra thickness of the case plastic....). Mostly updating this as I want to replace all the capacitors in it and while I am in there I want to neaten it up and change how I did a few things (eg S-video is done by the "lots-a-stuff" vs the simple transistor and resistor type). It used to be neat but as I added stuff over the years...anyway I am going OT here. At the moment I have 2 scart leads, 1 for the Master System (so 8 pin Mega Drive style) and the other for the 32X/MD2/MCD2 setup (9 pin mini din). I have the parts to make a new 9 pin mini din style scart lead so I will be making a second for the "re-done" SMS2. I had a look at the existing scart leads and the guy I got them from cheaped out on me, they are both missing the 220uF caps. My memory is foggy but that is maybe why I put the 220uF caps into the Master System 2 on the RGB lines.....f#@ks me I can't remember! I am thinking it is better if I move/add the caps into the cable, especially on the MD2 style SCART cable as it has nothing at the moment. I am not after what the caps are for (DC offset) but what is the worst that could happen? Slightly de-graded signal? These SCART cables are used via a RGB/Component converter. The image looks fine at the moment, maybe the RGB/component converter "cleans" up the signal? dunno I have probably answered my own question.... Which is, get caps put into cable....Awesome. Just after opinions. *edit Is it also worth while to re-do the cable in the existing cables. They are just overall screened, whereas I have some old VGA cables that are individual and overall screened.
