PLEASE CONFIRM THE REVISION OF YOUR BOARD VS SCHEMATIC! FOR EXAMPLE- THE MODEL 1 MEGA CD IS FROM AN EARLY REVISION AND MAY NOT MATCH YOUR CONSOLE! Here are some Sega Service Manuals. They were scanned from COPIES from the original manual NOT the original manuals. These will be good for repair and general information. There are 2 versions that have been scanned and in 2 sizes, A4 and A3. Print both sizes out in the required size, refer to the index and bind/staple as necessary. 1/PDF 600dpi greyscale for best detail and are near 1/1 copies from the photocopies, file size is bigger and best for printing 2/TIF 600dpi b/w are smaller in file size and are 90-95% of what the original photocopies are. Good for a quick download. The fellow forum member has translated more of the Mega CD manual for us. (I have included all what they have done to keep it all in one place). When all this is done, I will have a crack at putting it into word with all the (albeit crappy) pictures. If I do a shit-house job I don't mnd passing the banner over. ----------------------------------Page #41---------------------------------- Checker Specifications Ver.2 Model: MEGA-CD CHECKER /PART No. 610-0276 SEGA Checker Specifications Model MEGA-CD Checker Part No. 610-0276 Published: CS Product Engineering Dept. When placing the Mega Drive into the CD Checker Test Box, please disassemble the unit and use only the internal circuit board. For information on each component, refer to the CD Checker List "610-0267". For wiring and connections, refer to the CD Checker Schematic, "610-0267". 4) Check Flow The Checker Flow (inspection procedure) can be split into two parts. The first stage handles simple signal-variation and basic functionality checks, such as short circuits in the power line, various voltages, current, frequency measurements, basic Mega Drive access, MEGA-CD internal CPU (SUBCPU) and MEGA-CD gate array (MCE), substrate-functionality checks for basic operations and electrical checks for external sections. The second stage runs two concurrent programs to conduct a detailed self-checking routine (functions check) to check the various MEGA-CD's functions through the Mega Drive unit's internal CPU (MAINCPU) and SUBCPU. In other words, short circuits in the power line, data, address and control-signal path line shorts, etc. Functionality that can lead to substrate or CD Checker damage, unresponsive states and other unexpected behaviour, is excluded from the first-stage procedures, and so the second stage includes a detail checks to isolate the problematic areas, such as which IC pin or resistor is defective. Each step comes with an explanation. ① Follow the steps in section 2, Setup, to add the CD Checker into the system. ② Set DIP-SW2 No. 2 on the CD Checker MAIN BD to OFF (all other switches should be set to ON) ③ Switch the CD Checker power ON. The Version-Display Screen (diagram 5 - 1) will be displayed on the TV monitor followed by the Check-Start Screen (diagram 5 - 2). When on this screen, press the A Button while pressing and holding up on the control pad (control switches cannot be used). ④ The display will switch to the Menu Screen. (diagram 5 - 3). Move the cursor up and down using the up and down direction on the control pad, navigate to the "Initialise System" option and press the A Button. ⑤ The message "The system will now be initialised… Is this okay?" will be displayed (diagram 5 - 4). To proceed with the initialisation, press the A Button. Alternatively, press the C Button to return to the Menu Screen (diagram 5 - 3) and cancel the system initialisation. ⑥ Pressing the A Button in step ⑤ and the screen will change to display "Analog Comparison Voltage Adjustment…" (diagram 5 - 5). From here, rotate the VR1 on the CD Checker's MAIN BD and the CD Checker's voltage LED will light up. Adjust the voltmeter until "3.00" (±0.01) is shown. ⑦ Press the A Button and the message "System Initialisation Complete…" (diagram 5 - 6) will be displayed. Follow the instructions and turn the CD Checker's power OFF and DIP-SW2 No. 2 ON. This completes the CD Checker initialisation. NOTE #1: The CD Checker saves the Check Data to RAM BD on the MAIN BD. Initialising the system will erase this data entirely. NOTE #2: When following the instructions in step ⑦ and turning the CD Checker's power OFF, you'll first be returned to the Menu Screen (diagram 5 - 3). Pressing the C Button here, navigating to "Check-Start" and pressing the A Button will take you back to the "Check-Start Screen", and the power can now be turned OFF. <LEFT-HAND DIAGRAM> ---------------------------------------- MEGA-CD Checker Ver.*.** **** MODE ---------------------------------------- Diagram 5 - 1 Version-Display Screen <RIGHT-HAND DIAGRAM> ---------------------------------------- MEGA-CD Checker Please set the Check Board START: Check Start Up, A, B, START: Force Quit ---------------------------------------- Diagram 5 - 1 Check-Start Screen Ver.0.95/ Created: 92/04/27 -6- SEGA ENTERPRISES, LTD. ----------------------------------Page #47---------------------------------- Checker Specifications Ver.2 Model: MEGA-CD CHECKER /PART No. 610-0276 <TOP-LEFT DIAGRAM> ---------------------------------------- Check Operation Settings Confirmation Rotary Switch Settings Confirmation Initialise System Change History No. Check Results Report Check Start ---------------------------------------- Diagram 5 - 3 Menu Screen <TOP-RIGHT DIAGRAM> ---------------------------------------- The system will now be initialised. When errors occur or are found by the automatic check, the operation will immediately stop and an error message with an error code will be displayed (see section 6, "ERRor Messages" for details). The inspection procedure for Normal Check Mode, Factory Check Mode and Factory Check Mode run from Quick Check Mode are explained below. Ver.0.95/ Created: 92/04/27 -7- SEGA
People I was "asked" on another forum to re-do the PDF's in a lower resolution to get the file size down. I have done this via Adobe Pro. The links are on Sega-16 if I could have a volunteer have a look and share your thoughts. I may replace the Tiffs (even though I spent all that time doing the blasted things) with these lower resolution PDF's. I don't want my dropbox full of the same thing. Cheers Pete
I am currently in the (slow) process of reproducing the A3 schematics for the Mega CD 2. It will take me a while to do, as it will be done in my spare time. I am after volunteer's to do checking once I am done with it. Preference to someone who has either the Samsung or Sony laser equipped model since that is what the schematis is based on. I will be checking on mine, but I would prefer another person to do it as well. I will be drafting this on (at a guess) 4-6 sheets for clarity (try and get text size 2.5mm minimum but preferably the standard 3.5mm minimum). Again there will be a wait, maybe up to and past 1 month as it is quite involved trying to interpret the smudged text and following the circuit on my console.
Regarding the japanese pages in the Mega CD manual, after having looked through the schematics, I would say the most interesting ones to get translated would be the 10 pages manually marked as p.68 to p.78, which describe the inputs and outputs of the custom ASIC (315-5548) as well as some of the timings used when communicating with other chips. The remaining ones are about the Sega CD checker program procedures (for which the test CD and/or cart are not available anyway, at least publically) or common chips datasheets that already exist online in English.
Thank you for that. The fellow forum member is still translating parts as he can, I would feel awful to get him to stop now or should I?
honestly, i would say that translating the whole program procedures is a lot of work for something that nobody is probably going to be able to test or use, but I might be wrong (maybe there are people out there who got this Sega CD Checker thing and would love to understand what it does ?) those ten pages however appears to hold important informations about how the system internally works, which is kinda useful for emulation (or eventually technical repairs) and seems (relatively) easier to translate
Uploaded all manuals on my server. Because some stuff sometimes die in the internet. ftp://ftp.valet2.com/sega_service_manuals/
I have a link to the JVC X'Eye service manual for purchase if anyone comes through here looking for it. http://www.jvcservice.com/Service/JPartInq.asp?PgReq=DspDta&PrtNbr=NO.20478
Hi. Can anybody upload the schematics of the board 171-6528C-A? I've looking for it along Internet and I coudn't found anything. The boards in this thread, for example, don't have capacitors C307 or C308 and I haven't got C920. I'm desperate because I bought a dead Mega CD, which have missed the diod D301 and the fuse F301. I soldered the two components blindly (the traces of the board around these components are also destroyed) and it already don't works. Please, help me...
How much of the rest of the schematics match? Components that aren't necessary might've been left off at the factory without anyone updating the schematics.
This was the board when I received, after some little fixes: cleaned burned areas, removed some tin, and soldered C308 capacitor, that was partially pull out (I also suspect is burned): [GALLERY=media, 561]DSC_2559 by Yus posted Dec 1, 2015 at 6:08 PM[/GALLERY] Later, I fixed the fuse: [GALLERY=media, 562]DSC_2569 by Yus posted Dec 1, 2015 at 6:20 PM[/GALLERY] I have tried placing one diode in many positions: in R304+anode+F301 and cathode in the little metal point (in other side), R304+cathode+F301 and anode in the little metal point...etc. But in any form works. I don't know if I should make a new thread. Thanks. Edit: I've created a thread http://assemblergames.com/l/threads...his-sega-cd-mk-4102a-171-6528c-a-board.59121/
