So, I recently purchased and received a Sega Wondermega HWM-5010 unit after fixing a Victor Wondermega 2 recently, and discovered after powering up that while the BIOS comes up normally and most of the unit works right away (cartridges, audio preset buttons), the CD-Rom portion of the unit (inclusive of the LEDs specific to the CD-Rom) takes about 15 minutes to catch up and activate. After the "warm-up" period, it works fine--but not ideal.

I've not opened the Wondermega internals yet to clean and inspect, knowing full well it's an expensive beast within, so before I go and undertake this mission, are there some common issues I should go in investigating first and foremost?

(Man, it's been a while since I dropped in here. Glad to be back.)

Also of note, there's some definite composite video noise, audio checks out fine, and I'm testing with an S-Video cable coming in today to see if there's any noise issues that-a-way as well. However, the CD-Rom is the primary focus.

AC adapter is a non-OEM replacement with identical specifications (works with my Wondermega 2 and X'Eye just fine), similar to a notebook AC adapter.

This will almost certainly be a capacitor issue.

That jives with where my head was at, and what I was worried about.

Since I haven't the comfort level to do a re-cap on a Wondermega 1 personally, does anyone know of a reputable service or member who'd be willing to take it on?
