I'm looking to buy a Sega WonderMega HVM-5000 once i've sold of my PAL mega drive/mega-cd items and wondered what sort of price I should be aiming for...

(Picture of the model I want)

I've seen the Victor WonderMega M2 loads on eBay but only one of the models I want and that's for nearly £1000!!! surely that's not right is it?

What price should I be aiming for?

They're a heavily sought after collectible, few units appear for sale at any moment. When they do expect hundreds of dollars.
As far as I can tell (being an English speaker) even Japan's famed Yahoo auctions is out of stock right now.

It isn't all that great for gaming use. Wondermega doesn't output RGB unless modified, which means no 32X either.

    Thanks for the response.

I know there in demand and command a high price having read about them over the years going for higher and higher amounts.

There are 2 on ebay from the same seller at the moment.

1 boxed and complete for around £950 which as been on there for ages
    1 unboxed for around £375

If it was worth the cash (i.e. constantely selling for around £950) I would buy it no problem. What I want to get out from this thread is just to understand what the average price seems to be.

The RGB output and no 32x doesn't bother me, I want to collect JPN mega drive games (selling all my PAL collection first, which will fund the Wondermega), and want a show case system to go with the collection :)

I have an account with Rinkya and have been checking Yahoo Japan for the last week only for the system and your right there are none at the moment :-(

Anyways, thanks for the reply :)

It'll become a show case system once you manage to get RGB from it. An £950 system should look and sound like an £950 system when actually used. :)

I have a mega-tech system which outputs the best picture so would probably would not mod the WonderMega (but maybe Ill change my mind having seen what sort of output it gives).

Well true. In that case I'd just keep around a region switch mega drive. Largely the same effect and also be able to play any US or PAL locked games the wondermega won't.

all I can say is keep looking. it may take years but you will find one.
as I recall I got unboxed Sega Wondermega for under $100 several years ago and MIB Sega Wondermega for much higher fee which I promptly sold for nice sum.
As I use mine to play no point to keep MIB unit that would be hardly played.

Why not aim at the victor unit, they should be slightly cheaper..

I don't like the M1 or M2 Victor unit as much as Sega's efforts. I think I'd rather pay that bit more to be honest

From an esthetic point of view i like the victor unit better, i think the white ring on the sega unit is a little bit too noticeable. Also the CD-lid on the sega is made with reflective/soft material, very dificult to find without any scratches.

On the other hand, it is nice to have a unit with the sega logo on it.

Actually, I think I'd consider a Victor RG-M1 Model (not the RG-M2 though, I really don't like the design). :)
