Seems like a 3 players game. According to the date, I'll say...an actual prototype of SEGASONIC the Hedgehog?
Not to mention, that SegaSonic is also for three players... and that Ray the Squirrel is on there (Ray the Squirrel only appears on SegaSonic game)
It's not a proto of the isometric Sonic arcade. It's a hack of the Mega Drive Sonic 1. Just look at the font used. Typical standard Mega Drive font. The palm-tree graphics are straight from Sonic 1 as are the coulds and water. Then there's the colour used. I'm calling BS on this.
Doesn't SEEM to be the same screen resolution as the megadrive. I COULD be wrong though. The font used for misc text seems to be the same as SegaSonic's. Autistic attack striking again, but think about it: Genesis/CD games from Sonic 1 to Sonic 3/&K were in hands from the same people, somehow. For the Genesis they always had Yuji Naka on the programming and Hirokazu Yasuhara for the visual work and/or the creative part overall. And the last artist from the original staff was working on SonicCD. Now, all those games share a very similar mindset or mentality through various aspects, both internal and external. One of them is the fact that they always use their own, custom fonts. And, if possible, arranged in such a way that it could take a fixed quantity of 8x8 tiles and thus make ASCII-like systems to type text on screen in a fast and convenient way- Perhaaaps some manually-drawn text... but only if the font has to be bigger than 8x8; otherwise, it's more preferrable to go with an ASCII-like system like I mentioned above (Examples: Level select screens, Sonic 2's title screen's mini-menu (mapped sprites AFAIK, but still aligned to the 8x8 grid), Sonic 2's Options Menu, the 8x16 font used for many stuff in Sonic CD, and so on). The only games that break with that rule on the era are Knuckles Chaotix and SegaSonic, both games done by different teams with possibly a totally different mentality- ...Because, Knuckles' Chaotix uses the standard ASCII font used in many other games... perhaps for being shipped within their development kit or library(ies), and SegaSonic is the ONLY game from that time THAT SEEMS (I have yet to check), to use hand-drawn fonts that are smaller than 8x8, or at least aligned with individual sprites in such a way that looks like so. Now we have two possibilities: Either it being a real game for an arcade system, or being it a romhack. Most of the best sonic romhackers (from nowadays) tend to be incredibly serious and critical about the work of others, and their own. One pretty greately hated fact within the STH's community is about effortless fan-characters, especially recolors. Nobody likes them. Are you sure that, such a genious work would fall down like that? I mean, it just doesn't make sense that the possible faker creator, being most probably an expert, to just not mind about recolors. Considering it was posted by Shou, I highly, highly, HIGHLY doubt it is a fake or a hoax. Sure, it could be some old, previously unknown bootleg, I guess, but I don't know why they'd put a Sega copyright on it.
i have a feeling it could maby a prototype for SS. unless its a placeholder considering its 3 different colloured sonics insted of mighty and ray. again i personaly think its a hoax taking a swing at mario because of it being sonic and of corse BROS better quality image if anyone wanted it the clouds look custom. so dose the water EDIT: im contacting the owner about this game. i will have an explanation soon
Really, Yakumo? It's authentic and has a very interesting history. Yes, it has been preserved. Consider it lucky that this much has been revealed.
Any idea for when the dump would be done? SegaSonic is one of my favourite games, it shows more effort than the average of the Genesis Sonic games.
