so today i bought this over at YHJ:

    Segata Sanshiro Monogatari

Anyone knows what is inside and if its any good? I think just for Segata it's a nice collectible so it can't be that wrong. Especially as it was cheap. However, I find like nothing on English or Japanese sites about it :( Someone can help a bit?

As the former webmaster of a Segata Sanshiro fansite, I'd heard about this one but never actually seen it - never mind actually knowing what it contains! However, it's likely the book is little more than an official history listing the games he's advertised in the past, along with a little about his appearance at the unveiling of Sonic Adventure. There might also be something regarding his game, music singles and perhaps a few behind-the-scenes images from shoots for his Saturn commercials.

Did I mention that I meat Segatasan Shiro two weeks ago? Well, I say met, more like said hello to him and exchanged a few words before running away in shame  They were filming another f*ing program with rich people from TV eating. Anyway, this time they were eating Fugu which mostly comes from Shimonoseki where I live. Maybe some of you guys here in Japan saw the crappy show?

While we're at it, I wonder if anybody's heard of DJ Segata's "Dog or God" single? I bought it in the Shinjuku Tsutaya (the one with LOADS of game music), but as it is factory sealed, I've been reluctant to open it.

I seem to recall there being three singles released under the DJ Segata name, though the second was only a collection of remixes based around the Segata Sanshiro theme. As for Dog Or God, this is something we fans have heard so much about without ever actually hearing the song - it sure would be nice if someone was to make upload it... and maybe throw in his earlier remix disc as well!

On the subject of Segata Sanshiro, does anybody really prefer the version of his theme fully sung by Hiroshi Fujioka? Sure, the guy's a legend (at the time of writing this I'm extremely jealous of Yakumo for meeting him), but why on earth didn't they use autotuning on his voice? I doubt the "New Sega" would ever consider wasting its money on anything quite as obscure these days, even if there were - probably - a handful of truly hardcore Segata fans who may have wanted to hear him sing!

P.S. Forgive my lack of knowledge on the subject, but doesn't fugu consist of the only meat from a blowfish that isn't poisonous, hence the mandatory training of staff before being allowed to prepare this meal and subsequent high cost to customers?

No, not that show. That did finish a long time ago. Here's a rundown of what you can see on Japanese TV EVERY DAY !!

Up to 10 shows featuring "TV Talents" walking around from place to place or talking crap in a studio while eating.
at least 1 top ten food ranking for some area
at least 1 "Let's blow our own trumpet" style program. In other words let's boast how great we Japanese are at EVERYTHING.
at least 5 pathetic documentaries that drag on one topic for hours by constantly repeating them selves.
at least 3 or more Dumb idiot "variety" shows that normally have the same annoying sods that are featured in bout 5 of the other shows shown that day.
at least 1 show showing you how great some place is even though it basically consists of the same stuff that all the other places that show had featured in the past.
1 decent program ALL DAY IF YOU ARE LUCKY.

Japanese TV suks ass in a BIG way !

    Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Anthaemia, Fugu is indeed blow fish that contains poison. The odd thing is that I've never heard anyone actually talk about the poison part here in Shimonoseki. There are also a few different types of Fugu so maybe only a certain species of Fugu are poisonous ?

No they are all poisnous. Some fugu are raised in special water farms that filter out most of the poison. Still I hear its best to only eat fugu prepared by licensed chefs.

Yakumo did you ever see that episode of the simpons where homer had fugu himself and was told he could possibly die from it due to the other chefs poor handling?

In japan you can't serve Fugu unless you have the license. Bit like everything here, you need a license :(

Oh yeah, That Simpsons was on of the classics. I must have been 15 or so when that one was released!

You sum up the Japanese TV perfectly. ^__^
I always find why no one bother to make something decent to watch...

For Fugu my old man likes it and so does my in-law. For me that's off the list - I only eat Tuna/Salmon/Sword Fish sashimi - usually my old man prepares them...

    cheers

Yep, Japanese TV is shite ! You know out of the whole week I only watch the NHK News (If the TV is on) and ER X (10). That'S it ! Oh and the movies if they are worth watching. So out of the 168 hours in a week I only watch about 2 hours worth of Jaoanese TV. Pretty bad. I spend at least 10 watching stuff downloaded from UK nova !

Did you know that boiled Fugu balls taste like chicken? Or at least I think it does.

No idea but then I don't think my old man ever had boiled fugu balls either... ^__^

with TV think of this way. At least it gives you times to do something else since you cannot be a couch potatoes even if you wanted to be one... heh

What's really sad is that I only knew of fugu being poisonous (unless correctly prepared by trained hands, that is) because of the Simpsons - not bad for somebody who once felt they would never contribute anything worthwhile to society!

American TV is pretty much the same, except with MTV style quick pans and zooms and the occasional mini-interview where someone over-reacts to a minor event or tells you about their motivation for whatever they are doing.

    British TV > *!
