Semi-OT: Most @#$%ing cheap gaming moments.

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by Greatsaintlouis, May 8, 2004.

  1. Alright, I'm in a bit of a foul mood, as I've been trying to clear the infernal Silo level on 00 Agent difficulty in the N64 Goldeneye:007 for about 3 days now. My failure to clear it can be attributed not to my shitty gameplay skills, but to some really questionably cheap game mechanics, namely one of these three things:

    1) When a guard is living or going through the annoyingly slow death animations, my bullets are unable to pass through them. However, the bullets of the three guards behind him are able to pass through other living guards as well as the still dying guard in order to hit me.

    2) In the cases where myself and a guard fire simultaneously, the guard's bullet always hits first, usually allowing them to go through the wounded animation and set up for a second shot while I am recovering.

    3) When scientists are killed due to a guard blowing up a computer, the mission objective "Minimize Civilian Casualties" is failed despite the fact that it wasn't my kill.

    :smt076 :smt011 :Hangman: :snipe: :smt027 :axe:

So does anyone else have any ultra-cheap gaming moments that made you want to put a controller-sized hole through your television screen? Let's hear them.

    anyone?

in some mission , if you sound an alarm....an infinite number of guards can search you to kill you.... they always know were you are and the infinite number of guard just apear from no where.... like a 3x3 foot place with no windows and only one door ...that you watch from a certain distance....

plus, when you pause the game...the time that you that to slowly watch you watch...guards have can easly kill you if they are in a large number...on 00 agent.

    o and in perfect dark,
try to snipe a sniper , they will always know that they are in danger ,they will turn at your direction...take a sniper shot imediatly without watching in the lens and they always hit you! :snipe: woah ! that's a really good guard....don't you think....

doctor carol is really one of my worst game character....because of is IA damn on the 3rd mission (i think) when she need to follow you and she always placing itself betwen you and your openent !!!! get out of here damn ! or i kill ou with my double blast shot gun!!!!!!

    or/and she's never folowing.....

The trick is. You gotta know their routes and then take them out. Also, don't be stupid and take cover behind the computer or satellite or the barrels.

Went through a pretty hard stage, got to the boss died (there's 45 minutes gone). Did the stage again, beat the boss, went throuh the auto-event, then have to go up against another boss who killed me (add another 1:15).

This is my biggest pet peave in a game -- put a fucking save spot in there! I usually bitch about this b/c I have to play for 2 hours before saving... I've not got that kind of time by a long shot. Same principal, just different circumstances this time.

Now I've got to do it again, w/ no guarantees and an only half-working controller.

    I don't know if this one counts...but anyway -

Final Fantasy 9 was just out...I went in the day it came out to pick up my copy...and since had a low-preorder/intrest locally my local GAME store were giving away free memory cards with it (cheap branded GAME ones).

I picked up my copy...took it home and played it almost non-stop for the entire day and most of the day after (not because it was good...I hated it, however I refuse to complain about a game unless I complete it)....saving to my new memory card since my other RPG Memory card was full (I try and keep different types of game saves seperated ^_^). I was at the end of the Third disc and decided to call it a night.

So I wake up on the third day...turn on my Playstation and go to load my save. The game tells me the save is not there. I rebooted my PS into the Memory card manager and checked...it said my save was there....I went back to the game and tried again...It now tells me my memory card is Corrupt and I need a new one. I return to the Memory card manager again and it doesn't even register me as having a memory card in.

I ended up not playing FF9 again for about a year...because I couldn't face playing through all that once again....Since then I always try to backup my saves onto my Explorer Cart.

    Skies Of Arcadia

Skies Of Arcadia has some really annoying points to do with the cut scenes. I love to watch them but what I hate is after being killed then having to watch them all over again !! This is OK for maybe one or two times but becomes really annoying after that. Also Skies really needs more save points near the last boss. Takes almost 40 minutes to kill the Fecker then you have to kill another one which can take another 40 minutes and then some more !!! No saves at all !! God only knows how I managed to survive.

I know exactly what you mean Yakumo! In my experience with teh GC version of the game I quite playing it for ages since it kept crashing half-way through a Gigas fight....and you had to sit through loads of cutscenes before you go to the fight.

Though I disagree about the end boss, I think it was way too easy.

maybe the Game Cube version is easier? I would say that the last boss isn't as hard as some of the Gigas but the fact that there are 3 of them really adds up. By the way, they are releasing a new Skies Of Arcadia for game Cube in japan called Eternal Arcadia Legend which is only going to be 2800yen. That's half the price of a normal game. Not too sure what is different about it though. The game will be released on May 20th. Oh, that's today :p

I think this is like "Kaidokuban" for the Sonic games -- same as the other releases, just cheaper. "Best of" if you will.

I remember when I first got my Game Cube. I didn't have a memory card yet, so I played Luigi's Mansion from the start to the last boss in about 6 hours without dying even once. But the damn last boss just kicked my butt :smt022

I'd have to say that any game that doesn't take it basic gameplay mechanics into consideration pisses me off. Not to say that all games that do this are bad (becasue no game is ever "perfect")

Example: PS1 Castelvania Chronicles. Unlike all the other Castlevania games that when you get hit you get a short period of invincibility, in this one they forgot to impliment that, so often you get hit multiple times and juggled and killed, sometimes juggled straight into a bottomless pit or something.

  16. Yakumo, Eternal Arcadia Legend (or Skies Of Arcadia Legends here) is just Skies Of Arcadia on the gamecube, but with some new extras - apparently, another character has been added into the storyline, along with some other extras. It's been out here in the US for a few years now I think, I'm surprised to hear it's just now coming to Japan.

My most frustrating gaming moment of recent months would have to be playing through Propeller Arena Championship for the third time with the same plane on Normal. The enemies are just unbelievably cheap and Shadow is always albe to get 2 kills right off the bat. They are also exceptionaly good at takig your kills. It took a lot of patience to finally beat it.

Propeller Arena really pisses me off too. You can shoot the crap out of someone then that bloody shadow will fly in and take the last hit to score the point :smt076 This really is annoying !! And like you said ShadowofBob, how the hell can Shadow get two kills within 4 seconds of the round starting? It's just not possible. I've also notice the hit counter acting up every now and then. I'd glance at it and it would read "0" even though I'd shot someone down. A minute later I'd look againand it would say "2". What's going on there?

    Re: ARRGH

I hear ya, same for mario kart:dd on the gamecube, same cheap ass CPU settings especialy on hard mode.

You fight your way into the 1st place and 5 second before the finish (after being 1st for 3 rounds) you suddenly get 10 red shells up your arse and someone crosses right through you with a star or turbo and get the 1st place :smt076
