    Given I don't have access to the admin protion of this board thanks to cjpc, or own a real copy of the vbulletin software (again cjpc), the recent crash has shown how vulnerable the boards really are. Sadly there is NO conversion of vbulletin back to phpbb.

    So , basically we are STUCK.

    What I have to do now, is to have the correct source files to repair the bbs, and to get support if needed, is buy vbulletin.

    However, it's not cheap, it's $160.

    I've backed up the database and will do so every few days. However, until I get some cash and buy a real copy and can remove all the custom badly done php he threw on top of it, I'm not going to try to fix any of the existing problems with the board.

    If anyone knows how I can get to root and crack the admin cp in vbulletin to remove his passwords, please let me know.

    Man, that's really shitty. I was looking at the boards last night then all of a suddern it was gone until I just checked again now. I really hope you can get this sorted. Maybe if each member sends you 5 dollars then you can buy the software. Afterall 5 dollars is less than I spend on my lunch, so it's not that much money.

    I don't know how much access you have, but If you can FTP to the root of the vbulletin in the includes folder should be a file called config.php that has all the info you should need. At the very least I think you could set your account as Super Admin by changing the value listed in there.

    Hmm if you just want a copy of Vbulletin sans support....there are a couple of Russian sites that could deliver.

    Not an easy task. While I have no idea about PHP, I have a friend that is a very proficient software engineer. I will consult him to see if he knows anything or anyone that may help you.

    Good luck, sir.

    The thing is is any of the files in the vbulletin directory get corrupted, I have no files to replace them with.

    If you have access to the 'forums' directory where Vbulletin is stored, why not just backup the whole directory. At the very worst I'm sure someone could hand you some generic 3.0.7 Vbulletin files if you need them.

    Aside from the Bar above and the extremepixels theme this kind of seems like a vanilla 3.0.7 installation.

    Then again assuming that you can access the database to back it up and do what not to it, you could attack it from that end.

    Assembler, If i can have access to the config.php page and I would need to know when you Assmbler were entered into the database for example did you get entered after admin, joe , john than you would be #4 I can get you set as an administrator. If you give me access to the site I can do a backup for you. let me know. Looking over vbulletin it is pretty straight forward. If you have any questions on web work I have done check out www.resumemaker.com its one of the sites I am responsible for.

    You know, I don't care that much either. Start fresh. If you do, you end up solving the whole CJPC problem (well, he probably does owe you a TEST or two...). All we lose is a few posts and our post counts.

    Even if you wanna buy vBulletin...it could be a lot worse than 160 bucks. I'm sure we have 16 members willing to do ten bucks apiece. Probably more.

    Sigh...still...it would be nice to fix the site w/o destroying it...maybe we'll get lucky and find ourselves a PHP monkey that isn't a theif...

    frankly couldn't Assembler do that himself, the config.php is pretty easy to read and pretty easy to modify. It's like a glorified INI file.

    Not sure what he has or has not programmed. Just offering help if needed. The config.php contains who is admin and allows you to add to it.

    Is that a good or bad thing?

    you'll want to change the value of the Super Adminstrator in the config.php. The default is 1 as the first user should be the Admin. You just change that to the number you are.

    If you don't know what your number is, just keep on swapping out numbers until you get access to AdminCP.

    Do not need to go that deep. in the config.pho look for this:
    /
    / ****** SUPER ADMINISTRATORS ******
    // The users specified below will have permission to access the administrator permissions
    // page, which controls the permissions of other administrators
    $superadministrators = '';

    If you need to change the database here is that:

    // ****** DATABASE USERNAME & PASSWORD ******
    // This is the username and password you use to access MySQL.
    // These must be obtained through your webhost.
    $dbusername = 'root';
    $dbpassword = '';

    Although, I believe, just adding your number to the super Admnistrator should do the trick. here is a link that goes over settings in config.php

    An alternative method would be to access your MySQL database and modify the user list

    it should be under something like (server) localhost -> (Database) Vbulletin -> (Table) User

    That cjpc fellow should be userid 1 find your userid number and swap out the numbers, making you 1 and him whatever you were ... 2 maybe? Anyways, then you can kill his account.

    Hey, why not all pitch in a bit. 5 $ or 10 $ should be enough... I'd do it. What do you think kevin?
