Hi all, just wanted to ask a quick question regarding a Sega Saturn repair. I have a model 2 Saturn that I attempted to install one of bad_ad's region free bios chips into but damaged the new bios chip when installing due to it being a little bigger and not fitting the pads correctly. I also have a model 1 Saturn that has no video output since a pin was broken off the sega chip when doing the 60hz switch. Can I take the bios chip from the model 1 and use it on the model 2 or will the different models (and likely motherboard revisions) be an issue?

I can't use the original model 2 bios chip because I cut it out then cleaned up the pads when attempting the new bios install. I could purchase another chip from bad_ad but I also have an action replay which allows me to use imports so not massively fussed about the region free bios now.

I've contacted bad_ad regarding repair a little while ago and his price is very reasonable but I'd like to attempt the repair myself if possible.

Also I should point out I have no issues with bad_ad's chips, all problems are of my own making.

    Thanks

    Scrappy

*EDIT* just noticed the titles says sets instead of Sega (iPhone autocorrect) could a mod please change it?

    Thanks

BIOS should work OK, long as its not a va0.

I probably have some original chips you can have for free though. Won't even cost any shipping if you pick up that GameCube chip

Oh and the model 1 should be repairable too. Fixed many with the pin snapped off

Thanks buddy, i already tried to repair the model 1 by filing into the chip very lightly to expose the pin underneath but still didn't work so i've given it up as dead lol.

Anyway, i performed the transplant tonight. Model 2 is a VA9, model 1 didn't have a VA number printed on the board but both bios chips had the same numbers on them. SEGA MPR-17942-MX

Surgery went fine, took the bios off the mark 1, popped it onto the mark 2 and soldered the legs. A couple of solder pads were damaged so ran a small piece of wire from the leg of the chip to the nearest part big enough to solder to by following the trace. Turned it on and got just a black screen... Then out of nowhere the game screen popped up?

Hit reset and it asked me for language/date/time settings and seems to be working fine now. Sadly didn't take photos (i never do to be honest).

    Thanks again for the help.

P.S. I am still wanting the GC chip, 2x MegaCD 2 chips & switchless region/50/60hz kit for the Megadrive and will pop you another pm later this week.
