Overall, the emulation of the games found on the Xbox and PS2 version of Capcom Classics Collection seems right. With the exception of the Street Fighter games. I've noticed several things which makes me wonder if the versions included here are from the Saturn/PS releases? *Score display is jumbled a bit *A "now loading" screen appears before each match *The sound effect fireballs and certain punches make (when landed) is off *Music cuts out just before the announcer says "you win' or "you lose" after a round is over *Training and CPU battle modes are selectable, as is a remixed soundtrack *You can't speed up the text during the cut scenes after a fight Can anyone confirm if these are the Saturn or PS versions? It's a shame because the mish-mash classic version they included on the recent Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection at least looked and played more like the arcade original. It's odd because Capcom has never really been able to give us a "perfect" version of the coin-op games...either there are slight changes or some tiny missing elements.
Well I know that the Saturn versions of the games don't suffer from any of those problems you have mentioned so maybe they are PSX ports which is really dumb when you think about it. Most Saturn versions of Capcom fighters had the option of the original Arcade screen mode or Saturn. When arcade mode was selected youcould move the characters more off the screen. I take it this is due to the arcade having a different resolution than the standard TV. Vampire Savior even has a RGB mode ! Yakumo
I've been waiting for a decent home port of the Street Fighter 2 series (Super Street Fighter Turbo 2 is my favorite), but it sounds as though this isn't one I'd like to pick up. How is the collection on the Saturn, Yakumo? I might eBay a Japanese copy if it's decent, since I have a fairly large check coming in this week .
Hmm, pretty much arcade perfect to me. You can get Super Street Fighter 2 on the Dreamcast as well which is a really nice version. There are 2 Saturn Street Fighter 2 collections. One of them is volume 5 of Capcom Generations while the other is actually called Street Fighter II Collection and comes with a nice bonus which is Street Fighter Zero 2 DASH. Yakumo
I can't stand the Dreamcast's d-pad, so I'll probably stick with the Saturn version. I was looking at the Street Fighter II Collection discs, and the Japanese version seems cheaper. I'll probably go with that one - I need more Saturn games to play, anyway. Sorry for stealing the thread, SuperGrafx .
It's ok! In the end, I don't feel that the Capcom Classics Collection versions are 100% arcade perfect, but on the other hand, I do have the actual arcade jamma boards in my collection to fall back on.
Taemos, there's also the Street Fighter 2 Anniversary Collection on PS2. While it's not the same as having the original SSFII:Turbo or any of the others, it is pretty impressive - plus, it comes with Street Fighter III: Third Strike, which is approaching an arm and a leg on the Dreamcast. I haven't played the Saturn versions, but I can say that the PSX versions of Street Fighter Collection and the Capcom Generations Vol. 5 are pretty accurate. I'm sure hardcore SF junkies might be able to find some difference between them and the arcade version, but overall they're well done, and might run a bit cheaper than the Saturn versions as well. Of course, it goes without saying that if you have a Saturn, you must own Street Fighter Alpha/Zero 2.
well i put my capcom classics ps2 version in my comp, adn sure enough there a folder that is labled data, in it are the games that got releases on capcom generation colletion, and sure enough, if you open each folder there is an elf file and a folder thats marked psx data, so to answer your question yes it as well as othere that have been on capcom generations are psx ports.
YOu're asking the wrong guy. I'm not really in to Street Fighter Zero 2 that much to sit there and check what's different. yakumo
Heh, I thought so. I just noticed last night playing Son Son that it has a 1998 copyright date right on the title screen. Still a good compilation, save for those tiny nitpicks on the SF2 games.
That explains alot.. I knew that they were for sure not the Arcade originals.. as they did have a few interesting issues (listed prior).. Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold (as it was called in the US) - featured animation that was cut form the original Saturn Alpha 2... (I would have to verify if any moves were edited or changed).
The dreamcast had plenty of adapters that allow the use of saturn controls. Even the cheapest ones had accurate input and timming. In fact I almost never touch the saturn because I can play many of capcoms best fighting games on the DC with saturn control pads.
alpha 2 also added cammy as a secret player, as well as a special vs mode i belive, it didnt get a U.S. release in the arcade due to it barely having anything new at all, however it was released in japan i belive to accomidate improvements made in the us version. And as stated the only version rleased in th us was on the sfcollection 2 for psx and saturn, sorry if i got the title wrong, bit hazzy.
hy the hell did they use PSX ports for the Xbox? The Saturn versions are far better plus there's Street Fighter Zero DASH that has the missing animation plus what ever else. Maybe it's easier to port PSX games ? Yakumo
well its simple, the game was made first for ps2, so to make it easyer on them, they just port the ps2 code over to xbox, though i agree with you the saturn versions are better, but none of the alpha games are included on this collection, its funny but one of the guys who worked on this game was on teh gamefaqs forums answering questions as well gave out the code to unlcock everything, intrestingly enough there are more to come the guy said, right now theyre working on the psp and japanes version.
