Hello all, Check this guy's page he's got some nice pictures of SFC Protos there : http://www.spini2k.com/chrisc/secrets3.html He is also the creator of a Supergrafx demo related to SFC as well: http://www.zyx.com/chrisc/creations.html This guy is amazing :smt043 Sabre
Very nice! I'll have to see if I can find the other pics I had of some more SFC prototypes / sketches.
Very cool -- some of the SFC proto pics were posted here before by Yakumo. That SGX stuff is pretty damn impressive though.
from http://www.axess.com/twilight/console/detail/sfc.html Basically the same as the 1st post is http://www.gamersgraveyard.com/repository/snes/history/prototypes.html Here's a nice close-up: Still can't find the pic I remember of 3 and 4 port SNESses.
It happens in prototyping. As was explained on the SNES CD thread, prototype controllers will have a serial connector often. That is a serial connector.
This is not a prototype, this is *obviously * from a Famiclone. 90% of the later Famiclones use DB9 connectors like Atari/Sega consoles and the endless others.
That one looks a lot like the original Famicoms - it's even still got the controller holders at the side... though the controller that's plugged into it ain't gonna fit in those...
That Super Famicom that looks like a Famicom looks very much liek a Photo shop effort to me. It was nice to see all those protos of the Famicom again. The shots I posted a while back are gone from my HD now :smt022 The Super famicom sure had many different fron designs. Yakumo
While we're on the subject, EGM issue #2 showed some early pics of "DragonFly" (later to be renamed Flightclub and eventually PilotWings). They showed a pic of the Mode 7 capabilities using the title screen logo as well as one early gameplay photo which looked pretty similar to the final product. Any clue if protos or a rom of the early versions exist?
Apparently, DragonFly was just a technical demo - the first demo for Super Famicom, to show off what was to become Mode 7. I would imagine the prototype (yes, *THE* prototype) is safely tucked away in Nintendo's vaults, as it would have been a pre-release demo, not a prototype given out to anyone... they wouldn't have the hardware to play it on! Maybe a video or some screenshots exists somewhere.
Does anybody know anyone who has a full set of US Nintendo Power? I know just after the SNES was released, there was a feature showing Nintendo's mock up's of possisible designs...it had about five or six that I've never seen online beofore...I just can't find my copy of that issue.
