Is this finaly the end of mips?

I don't know of any future devices that still plan to use the instruction set.

Yes but I'm more skewing twards entertainment devices.

Most handheld devices (pda/vg sys/mp4 players) are using other types like Arm, PPC or X86. I think even alot of cell phones have swapped off mips cpus (my p900 is a mips but I think the latest SE phones use something else).

    =( I like mips

What handheld device uses a PPC processor? I'd be interested to know.

SGI designers of one of the best consoles ever going under

The Acclaim name was bought up, so the company is still going in the same way...

If IBM had bothered to patent the PC properly then who knows maybe we would be writing emails on some SGI based system?

interesting note Jamtex, could you provide a good article analysing how IBM could have patented the PC "properly"?

SGI's world of super ultra expensive workstations ended a long time ago. That's why they're going under. Also, most of the talent moved to new opportunities long ago. People who were at SGI are now at places like ATI/AMD, NV, Intel, etc.
