    Hello everyone,

can please someone tell me which versions of the Saturn SGL have leaked over the years and are available somewhere?

I am aware of the 302j that can be found quite easily, but for preservation I would like to understand if any other version has ever leaked and is available online, or some collectors has it.

    Thank you,

    Jollyroger

    Good to know, thanks!

Do any of the older SGL versions include source code?

    Cheers,

Just want to add a couple of things.
No source code for SGL has ever been leaked that I know of. SBL source code was included with the rest of the devkit however some libraries like the CDC library and parts of the sound driver weren't released to developers. There was at least one version, possibly two versions beyond SBL 6.01 that were used somewhere around 1997 or later in several japanese games. I can't remember if SGL received an update, but considering both SGL/SBL depend on the GFS library, it's likely it was updated as well.

There's also a few other odd third(second?) party libraries out there. At least one version of Cinepak and Truemotion have both been leaked. MPEG Sofdec, and ADX have not. There's also the Netlink/X-Band library which may possibly be floating around out there.

Is it possible to find some of these in the file upload section ? The search engine is not really astonishing when it comes to find short words

I looked around both the downloads and the dev tools forums, no luck...

I'm pretty sure the updates came with strong advice that the old ones shouldn't be used in some cases. Whilst it might be interesting to have them from an historical point of view, if you want to use it, you're better off with the latest version. That's probably why that's the one doing the rounds ;)

Retro, I have been around a long time :)

Back in the day I remember working on both the PS1 and the Saturn, and the SGL libraries I had back then were not the latest version we have today.

For preservation and archival sake I would like to have those old versions, just for old times sake, to have the "pleasure" of reconstructing the development environment I had at that time in my life; I do not intend to use them for development right now.

People here seem to have some of those old versions, and yet despite my multiple requests, there doesn't seem to be a hurry to release them...

Yup, of course - that was more an explanation as to why they're not out there ;)

I'm not sure if i like that grin of yours. Do you have a plan? Should i get my popcorn ready?
Btw, you forgot the "In the name of Sonic" part :D

Actually, two viewpoints are clashing here, and they're both correct to some extent. But to my belief, SGL is not a piece of art, just a tool, so keeping only the best tool is quite reasonable for most community members. Those who keep the old versions might have some doubt that the last one is the best. So i think, Jollyroger, that you can exploit that doubt to reach your goal.

I personally don't own copy of SGL other than 3.02j, and as I don't plan to use it (licensed by Sega, closed source, etc), I didn't looked for it.
But yes, keeping all leaked versions in a safe place may be useful in the future :)

A new threat, huh? Segata Sanshiro (isn't he at the photo in the leftbottom corner?) will beat the crap out of you if you don't play on your saturn, but Sonic will do the same if you don't play with your saturn. I think those guys with dust all over their SGL archives must do something very soon indeed :)
