I don't know why the title of this thread says PCE + PC, the X1 was a range of computers, only one of which had a PCE sharing the same case.

'cause google's so damned hard to use. ;)

Aren't you, like, in Japan? How can anyone excuse you for not knowing this stuff, especially when you have the ability to lean out the window and see three of the devices in question sitting on the curb waiting for the recycle man to come 'round?

    EDIT
Having downloaded the emu and the game shown in these pics I can easily say none of us is missing out. Sub-MSX quality we've got here. Reminds me of the Apple II stuff more than anything, with 16 colours and lots of dithering.

Well, the device you see it's a Spartan-3 FPGA board from Xlinx.
Someone created microcode to build the X1 chips in them. It's quite a feat(and a proof of the versatibility of these boards), but the system itself is a run-off-the-mill solution, that you can get for $99 from Xlinx itself.

EDIT. $99 ? Heck. I remember when a basic FPGA kit would cost $200 upwards.

Maybe because he lives in Japan. Last time I bought something from him the package said Japan on it.

The board is actually from Digilent. I have it ;) I could see his work first hand if I installed Foundation and unplugged my monitor/keyboard.

I just have to ask, how cool is it? I've been looking to get one of these, but I never know what I _would_ do with them :p

They're great if you want to learn digital electronics. I haven't used the board much yet since I don't know VHDL but sometime I hope to put it to full use. I had no clue that the (200K gate) Spartan 3 was powerful enough for any SoC designs, especially a PCE so thats quite a pleasant surprise.

Lawrence is from Canada I do believe, and moved to Japan like 10 years ago or something ;-)

Still, not everyone knows EVERYTHING about a topic in their country, Lawrence.

Hands up UK people who have heard of the Cheetah Gamate?

Some hands may go up having heard of it in Europs under a different manufacturer, but not many remember the Cheetah one ;-)

Saying that though, ive never met anyone who had one :drinkers:
